Thanksgiving in the United States
In most countries, people usually eat traditional food on special holidays. A special day in the United States is Thanksgiving. It is always on the fourth Thursday in November, and is a time to give thanks for food in the autumn. At this time, people also remember the first travelers from England who came to live in America about 400 years ago. These travelers had a long, hard winter, and many of them died.
在大多数国家，人们通常在特殊的节日里吃传统食物。美国的一个特殊节日是感恩节。它（感恩节）总是在十一月的第四个星期四，它是一个在秋天对食物表达感谢的时间。此时，人们也回忆起约400年前从英国迁来美洲生活的首批旅行者。这些旅行者度过了一个漫长而又艰苦的冬天，他们中的许多人死去了。
In the next autumn, they gave thanks for life and food in their new home. These days, most Americans still celebrate this idea of giving thanks by having a big meal at home with their family. The main dish of this meal is almost always turkey, a large bird.
Making a turkey dinner
Here is one way to make turkey for a Thanksgiving dinner.

First, mix together some bread pieces, onions, salt and pepper.
Next, fill the turkey with this bread mix.
Then, put the turkey in a hot oven and cook it for a few hours.
When it is ready, place the turkey on a large plate and cover it with gravy.
Finally, cut the turkey into thin pieces
and eat the meat with vegetables like
carrots and potatoes.

（1）give thanks for 意为“对......表示感谢”。 give thanks to sb. for sth. 意为“因某事对某人表示感谢”。
We give thanks for teachers’ help. 我们对老师的帮助表示感谢。
Please give my thanks to your brother for his help. 请向你哥哥转达我对他帮助我的谢意。
（2）autumn 名词，意为“秋天；秋季”。常用搭配in autumn “在秋天/秋季”。
Autumn is my favorite season. 秋天是我最喜欢的季节。

3. Families see Thanksgiving as a time to get together and usually celebrate it with a big family meal.人们认为感恩节是一个家庭团聚的时刻，而且通常会用一顿家庭大餐来庆祝。 （课本第61页2b）

4. Here is one way to make turkey for a Thanksgiving dinner. 下面是一种制作感恩节火鸡大餐的方法。 （课本第61页2b）
（1）本句是倒装句，句式结构为“Here+be+主语+其他。”。
Here is your money.

（2）way可数名词，意为“方式；方法”，其后可接动词不定式或“of+doing”作定语。
In this way,they got the answer at last. 用这种方法，他们最终找到了答案。

常用搭配：mix...with... “把......和......混合“，mix up ”混合；搅拌；拌匀“。 mix up 是由”动词+副词“构成的短语动词，后跟名词做宾语时，名词放在短语中间或短语之后都可以；后跟代词做宾语时，代词必须放在短语中间。
She mixed eggs,meat and pepper. 她把鸡蛋、肉和胡椒粉拌在一起。
Mix blue with yellow and you will get green. 把蓝色和黄色混合起来你会得到绿色。
She mixed up flour and water. 她把面粉和水混合起来。

fill 为及物动词，意为“（使）充满；装满”。 fill... with... “用......装满......”（表示动作）。 be filled with “充满......”（表示状态）。He filled the glass with water.

full 形容词，意为“满的”，be full of... 意为“充满......”，表示状态，相当于be filled with....。

（1）place此处用作及物动词，意为“放置”，相当于put。
