The Qinghai-Tibet Railway is the first railway in Tibet. Before then, people could hardly get in and out of Tibet. Traveling inside Tibet was difficult, too. People often went from one town to another by bus. It took a long time. In 1958, China began to build the railway. It starts in Xining of Qinghai and ends in Lhasa.
“It’s a miracle(奇迹)to build a railway above the clouds,” a French newspaper once wrote about the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. The railway runs across no-man’s land and climbs up snowy mountains. From Qinghai’s Golmud to Lhasa, about 550 kilometers of the railway runs on frozen earth. More than 100,000 workers spent five years on building this railway. In 2006, the railway was finally ready.

The Baikal-Amur Mainline(BAM) is a railway line in Russia. It’s about four thousand kilometers long. A special train, the Matvei Mudrov(MM) travels along it. The train brings basic medical treatment(基本医疗) to people living along the railway line. The train took its name from a famous Russian doctor. There are usually between twelve and fifteen doctors on the train. The train stops at places along the line. The people who live in small towns and villages come to the train for medical help.
