Jenny's parents must choose between leaving Jenny alone at home and finding another person to take care of her while they are not at home. Like most of the parents, they often worry when Jenny is at home alone. But there are things they can do to ease(减轻) their worries and help protect Jenny when they're not around.
Stay in touch
Call Jenny throughout the day to know how she is and what she is doing. Ask her to turn off lights, lock the door and leave the windows closed before leaving home. When she gets home, call her again to make sure everything is OK.
Keep Jenny connected
Put up important telephone numbers on the wall, including the parents', the doctor's or a relative's, which can help Jenny immediately if she needs help.
Practise what to do
Teach Jenny how to call 911 and when to do it. Ask questions like “If someone is trying to get in the house, what should you do ” “If you get hurt, what should you do ” and “If you want to play at a friend's house, what should you do ”
Set strict rules
Make clear what Jenny is allowed to do and what she isn't allowed to do. She can't use the Internet when she is at home alone. No friends are allowed to visit the house when she is at home alone.

Early this morning my parents left me home alone, so I had to stay at home all by myself for the first time in my life.

I didn't get up until 10 o'clock in the morning. I had some biscuits and milk and then watched my favourite TV programmes. However, I started to get hungry very soon. So I tried to cook some noodles.

But they tasted terrible. In the afternoon, I seemed to have no one to talk to and nothing else to do except watching TV. And finally, when my parents returned, I served a delicious dinner to them.
