Welcome to the unit & Reading教学设计

教学目标与核心素养:
知识目标:获取与梳理出演讲稿的主要信息,分享阅读感受,整合文本信息。
能力目标:描述和阐释实现个人潜能的方式、自己受到的启发、以后的打算;推理和论证作者的写作目的、育人观和情感。
情感目标:赏析语篇的文体特征与修辞手法,探讨其与主题意义的关联,理性表达自己的读后感,加深对主题意义的理解。
教学重难点
教学重点:获取与梳理出演讲稿的主要信息,分享阅读感受,整合文本信息;描述和阐释实现个人潜能的方式,以及自己受到的启发。
教学难点:赏析语篇的文体特征与修辞手法,探讨其与主题意义的关联;理性表达自己的读后感。
课前准备:多媒体,黑板,粉笔
教学过程:
一、Pre-reading
1. Greeting
2. Leading-in
教师活动:教师向学生展示视频 Welcome to the unit,并让学生讨论:
Q1: What do you think of your new school life so far
Q2: In what areas do you think you can do well at senior high school
Q3: In what areas will you have to work harder
学生活动:根据教师问题讨论对高中生活的感受和看法,激活学生对于高中生活的认知。
活动目的:调动学生学习积极性,同时引入文章主题。
2、 While-reading
1. 教师活动:Read for topic sentences.
(1)A topic sentence tells the reader the main idea of a paragraph. It is usually at the beginning of a paragraph, but it may also be in the middle or at the end of a paragraph.
(2)Ask students to read the speech transcript and find the topic sentence for each paragraph.
Para. 1: Welcome to senior high school!
Para. 2: I can't wait to describe to you what senior high school life is like.
Para. 3: What is potential
Para. 4: To fully realize your potential, it is important for you to make the most of our school resources.
Para. 5: Of equal importance are good study habits, useful skills and a positive attitude.
Para. 6: Be confident, do your best and make us proud!
学生活动:通过教师介绍了解“什么是主题句”,同时在完成文章听力后找出各段主题句。
2.教师活动:仔细阅读文章,回答下列问题。
(1)What challenges will students face at senior high school
They will face a new environment, new knowledge and new ways of thinking.
(2)What does the principal have confidence in
The principal has confidence in the students' ability to make a difference to their family, to their community and to their country.
(3)What school resources are mentioned in the speech
Classes, teachers and classmates, school facilities and a lot of school activities are mentioned in the speech.
(4)What positive attitude should students develop
They should develop a positive attitude, always look on the bright side and never lose hope, even in difficult situations.
活动目的:引导学生关注文本内容,充分理解文章细节。
3.学生活动:讨论。学生解决读前提出的问题,可以通过互相讨论解决不同的问题。
4. 教师活动:Discuss the following questions in pairs.
(1)How does the principal try to keep his audience interested What rhetorical devices does he use Find examples from the speech.
The principal tries to keep his audience interested by asking questions.
He uses a quotation and a parallelism.
An example for using a quotation:
As Lao-Tzu wisely said, "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."
An example for using parallelism:
Be confident, do your best and make us proud!
(2)How are you going to realize your potential
In order to realize my potential, I should make the most of my school resources and develop good study habits, useful skills and a positive attitude, then look on the bright side and never lose hope, even in difficult situations.
活动目的:通过对文本的再次深入解读,感受文章所传达的思想,并与同伴的讨论,学习文章写作方法,体会文章内涵,促进学生之间合作意识。
三、After-reading
1. 学生活动:完成B1练习,并与同伴核对答案。

2. 完成B2表格。

3. 学生讨论下列问题:
(1)What is the purpose of the speech transcript
To welcome new students and give them some advice on how to realize their potential in senior high school.
(2)What is the author's view on education And how do you know
To develop students as well-rounded people.
For example: . . . you develop as a student and as a person . . . you will find yourself growing into a well-rounded; individual. Be confident, do your best and make us proud!
(3)What is the author's emotion in the speech transcript And how do you know
The speech is filled with the author's expectations of the new students and every sentence is heartfelt and touching.
We can know from the following sentences:
…must make efforts to improve your communication and problem-solving skills.
…need to make a continuous effort to train your mind and develop your character.
…look on the bright side and never lose hope, even in difficult situations.
四、Summary
总结课上所学,梳理文章结构,学会积极乐观地看待生活。
作业布置:Ask students to write a speech transcript.
1. Describe your feelings of the speech transcript.
2. Describe your challenge.
3. Analyze your own potential: advantages and disadvantages.
4. Your plans for realizing potential.
