Teaching Plan of Unit 6 Travelling around Asia
I. Background information
Lesson type Grammar Students Class 12, Grade 7 Lesson duration 40 minutes
Analysis of the teaching material The grammar in Unit 6 is about conditional sentences (CS). The topic of Unit 6 is travelling, while the topic of the grammar exercises in the book is about problems. Therefore, we designed some teaching material about travelling instead of using what is provided in the book. The teaching material mainly consists of some pictures and sentences about three cities, Beijing(BJ), Guangzhou(GZ) and Hong Kong(HK). Beijing and Hong Kong are respectively mentioned in listening and more practice but not discussed in details, while Guangzhou is where students live.
Analysis of the students Most students in Class 12 are passive and they are not good at expressing themselves in English. However, they are keen observers and always ready to do different tasks. It is the first time for them to learn clauses so it would be difficult for them to catch the concept of CS. They are quite familiar with BJ/GZ/HK but they don’t know how to describe the places of interest of these cities and what they can do there in English.
Teaching objectives At the end of the lesson, students are able to know the meaning and form of CS.know the situation to use CS: give advice to others.learn the expressions about travelling in BJ/GZ/HK.cooperate with group members to create a chain story.introduce the places of interest and culture in these three cities in English.
Teaching focus Students learn how to use CS.
Possible difficulties Students may find it hard to:use the tense in a correct way.decide when to use CS.
