Ⅰ. Analysis of teaching material
The text mainly talks about an American actor, Christopher Reeve, who became famous as Superman in three very popular films .He broke his spine in a horse riding accident and became paralyzed. After that, he showed incredible strength of character in recovering psychologically and physically and also promoting research into spinal cord injuries. More activities should be designed to help students understand the text better and exactly. What’s more, the teacher should encourage students to learn from Christopher Reeve and develop their strong willpower.

Knowledge and skills
(1) To develop Reading Strategies—Working out meaning when reading.
(2) To develop word attack skills to cope with new vocabulary and phrasal verbs.
(3) To practice asking for and giving personal information.
Process and methods
(1) By show students a short video and some pictures to lead in topic to arouse the student’s interest/
(2) During Pre-reading, some questions related to Christopher Reeve help students better understand the text.
(3) In While-reading, the whole language approach is fully made use of to help students form the overall comprehension of the text.
Emotion, attitude and value
(1) To make students feel the incredible strength of character of Christopher Reeve, which made him get through the serious spinal cord injuries.
(2) To help students form proper attitudes towards difficulties in life and try to develop their strong willpower.

(1) Help the students master the following words and phrases: disaster. on his own, promote, injury, confident, get involved, divorce.
(2) Improve the student’s reading ability.
(3) How to help the students understand the text better and exactly.

多媒体运用不熟练,应提前至少一节课时间去多媒体教室调试。课文内容不熟练,语速过快,紧张,出现忘词、卡壳现象,以后的教学过程中要避免此类事情的再度发生,加强自我修养。
课文讲解部分需要完善,充实内容,并设计多样的活动,使学生掌握课文。活动设计部分,学生在讨论时不够活跃,课堂气氛略显沉闷,应设计多样化的活动,适应各个层次学生的需要。
公开课教案较单薄。
前面课文讲解部分可以在careful-reading之后增加一个与课文相关的表格任务,作为任务型读写来做,使学生对课文理解的更好,再进行下一个讨论的环节,语速切勿过快。
Careful-reading中的跟读有助于学生集中注意力完成整篇阅读同时课文中不会读的单词还能给予纠正。
Discussion部分留给学生的时间过短,应该给学生充分的时间思考并讨论。
Voice my opinion 部分,教师总结,可以给学生做示范又可以引导学生进行总结,同时使学生对课文进行再认识。
Further discussion 对于superhero用9个单词进行解释,应在每个单词后面注上中文,并对每个单词进行解释,然后教师带读这9个单词,最后点题Superhero,不仅使学生深入理解Superhero的含义还可以学到新的词汇。
教学设计的思路要缜密而且在上课之前要对课文及准备的各项内容和课堂用语熟练掌握。对于上公开课的环境和各项设备要提前熟悉,提前调试,为公开课的开展做好充分的准备。
上课时要从容大方,教态自然,语速适中。
本节课是一篇阅读课,讲述的是演员Christopher Reeve的事迹。Christopher Reeve早年以超人这一角色而闻名,在1995年,因不慎坠马伤及背部脊椎瘫痪,本文主要讲述Christopher事故之后,不仅没有放弃生命反而以及其坚强的意志努力求生的故事。在理解课文的基础上,让学生学习Christopher身残志坚,勇助他人的精神意志。
按照本文的结构特点结合Christopher的事迹,我的设计思路如下:
第一,导入。通过观看电影《超人》的片段导入新课,使学生快速了解Christopher演员这一角色,并使学生对超人这一电影人物有所认识,即帮助他人的英雄。
第二,猜字游戏。教师说出单词的意思,学生说出该单词,游戏结束之后学生跟读单词。通过这一活动,使学生掌握单词的含义,在快速阅读之前帮助学生扫除单词障碍。
第三,快速阅读。要求学生快速阅读课文前三段,在阅读之后回答第一个练习中的问题。每个问题回答完后,教师予以解说,引导学生回答下一个问题。通过这三个问题使学生对Christopher有初步的了解。
