知识目标:阅读一篇高中校长给新生的演讲稿并据此分析文章主题思想。
能力目标:分析文本内容和语言表达,模仿并学习其表达方式。
情感目标:理解并讨论演讲中传达的中心思想,学习校长的激励人心的话语用以指导自己的高中生活。
教学重难点
教学重点:阅读校长发表的演讲稿并理解其中内涵;
教学难点:找出文章中心句并学习文章写作结构。
课前准备:多媒体,黑板,粉笔
教学过程:
一、Pre-reading
1. Greeting
2. Leading-in
教师活动:教师向学生展示视频 Welcome to the unit,并向学生提问:目前为止,你认为你的新学校生活怎么样?在哪些方面你在高中可以做得更好?在哪些方面你需要更加努力?
学生活动:根据教师问题回忆入学以来的经历,与同学讨论并回答教师问题。
活动目的:调动学生学习积极性,同时引入文章主题。
2、 While-reading
1. 教师活动:1. Think about the following questions before you read the text.
(1) How do you think senior high school will be different from junior high school
(2) What do you think the principal will talk about in his speech
2. Introduce the definition of "topic sentence" to students.
(The primary function of the topic sentence is to make it clear to the reader the main idea of the paragraph. Additionally, the topic sentence can be used to clarify the point or position you wish to take in that paragraph.)
3. Students listen to the audio carefully and after listening you need to find out the topic sentences of the text.
学生活动:通过教师介绍了解“什么是主题句”,同时在完成文章听力后将各段主题句标出。
2. 学生活动:Read the speech transcript and find the topic sentence for each paragraph and discuss with your partners.

Para. 4: To fully realize your potential, it is important for you to make the most of our school resources.

活动目的: 通过快速阅读文章,学生找出文章主题句并通过主题句了解文章大意。
3. 教师活动:Let students read the speech transcript again carefully and answer the following questions.
1. What challenges will students face at senior high school
They will face a new environment, new knowledge and new ways of thinking.
2. What does the principal have confidence in
The principal has confidence in the students' ability to make a difference to their family, to their community and to their country.
3. What school resources are mentioned in the speech
Classes, teachers and classmates, school facilities and a lot of school activities are mentioned in the speech.
4. What positive attitude should students develop
They should develop a positive attitude, always look on the bright side and never lose hope, even in difficult situations.
活动目的:引导学生关注文本内容,充分理解文章细节。
三、After-reading
1. 教师活动:Discuss the following questions in pairs.
1. How does the principal try to keep his audience interested What rhetorical devices does he use Find examples from the speech.
The principal tries to keep his audience interested by asking questions.
He uses a quotation and a parallelism.
An example for using a quotation:
As Lao-Tzu wisely said, "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."
An example for using parallelism:
Be confident, do your best and make us proud!
2. How are you going to realize your potential
In order to realize my potential, I should make the most of my school resources and develop good study habits, useful skills and a positive attitude, then look on the bright side and never lose hope, even in difficult situations.
活动目的:通过对文本的再次深入解读,感受文章所传达的思想,并与同伴的讨论,学习文章写作方法,体会文章内涵,促进学生之间合作意识。
2. 学生活动:完成B1练习,并与同伴核对答案。
四、Summary
总结课上所学,梳理文章结构,学会积极乐观地看待生活。
作业布置: The speech uses a number of parallel structures. Find them in the speech and use a similar structure to encourage someone who is unhappy.
