过去完成时的用法
(1)过去完成时的概念
过去完成时表示到过去的某一时刻为止已经完成的动作，即某动作在过去某一时刻之前就已经完成了，即“过去的过去”。
(2)过去完成时的构成
过去完成时是由“助动词had＋动词的过去分词”构成的，had用于各种人称和数。
如：She had arrived at the village before 8 o'clock last night.
昨晚8点之前她就到达了这个村庄。
(3)过去完成时的句式
过去完成时的否定句是在had后加not；一般疑问句是将had移至句首，其肯定回答为：Yes，主语＋had.；否定回答为：No，主语＋hadn't.。如：
①Her little brother hadn't gone into the bathroom by the time she got up.
她起床时，她弟弟还没有进入浴室。
②—Had you started teaching when she got into the classroom 她走进教室时，你已经开始讲课了吗？
—Yes, I had./No, I hadn't.
是的，我开始讲了。/不，我还没有开始讲。
(4)过去完成时的标志
1)用于表示过去某一时刻前已经发生的动作或存在的状态，常与by, before, after, until, when等引导的过去时间状语连用。如：
①They had collected over 1,000 stamps by the end of last month.
到上个月月底，他们已经收集了1000多张邮票。
②The bus had already left by the time I got outside.我出去时，公共汽车已经开走了。
③When I got home, my mother had finished cooking.
当我到家时，妈妈已经做好饭了。
④I hadn't found the dog until last night.
直到昨天晚上我才找到那条狗。
⑤When I got to school, I realized I had left my bag at home.
当我到达学校时，我才意识到我把书包忘在家里了。
⑥I had lived in London for more than ten years before I came here.
我来这儿之前已经在伦敦住了十多年了。
【注意】如果时间状语从句的动作发生在主句之前，则从句用过去完成时，主句用一般过去时。如：
My watch went well after I'd had it repaired.
我的手表修好了以后，走得很准。
2)过去完成时用于宾语从句中，表示从句的动作或状态发生在主句的谓语动词的动作之前。如：
He told me that he had heard of the good news.
他告诉我他已经听说了那个好消息。
有时过去完成时也用在其他从句中。如：
What he had said made me angry.
他说的话真让我生气。(用在主语从句中)
3)有时句子中没有明显的时间状语，动作发生的时间先后须根据上下文去判断。如：
She was very happy. Her whole family were pleased with her, too. She had just won first place in the game.
她非常高兴。她的全家人也对她感到满意。她刚刚在比赛中获得了第一名。
(5)过去完成时的持续用法
表示过去某一时间之前发生的动作或存在的状态一直持续到过去某一时间，并有可能继续下去。常与由for或since引导的表示一段时间的短语或从句连用，此时要把短暂性动词改成持续性动词。如：
①He had worked in the factory since it opened in 1996.
自1996年工厂建成以来，他一直在这儿工作。
②Mr. Smith had taught in Europe for 15 years before he went to Australia.
史密斯先生在去澳大利亚之前已经在欧洲教了15年书。
③The movie had been on for 15 minutes when I arrived at the cinema.
我到达电影院时，电影已经开始15分钟了。
