Step 1 Warming up
1. Greet the students and present the teaching content.
2. Sing an English song: Health Song. Encourage students to be healthy.
Step 2 Leading in
Show a picture of no-smoking sign in school and ask students to tell the problems smoking causes and lead in some new words.
Step 3 Understanding
1. Prediction
Look at the picture and predict what Wang Junfeng and Maria are doing.
2. Listening
(1) Listen to 1a and find out what they are reading about.
(2) Listen to the first part and find out why Maria’s father smokes.
(3) Listen to the second part and find out what are the results and suggestions of smoking.
(4) Read after the tape and finish 1C.
(5) Read the text again.
3. Make a dialogue
(1) Think about how to help families or friends give up smoking.
(2) Make up a dialogue between Marie and her father.

Step 4 Sharing

Mark the habits healthy or unhealthy.
2. Exercise 2a
(1) Choose the correct sentence to complete each description.
(2) Read the sentences and summarize the sentence structures.
(3) Each group describes one picture with different sentence structures.
Step 5 Expressing
Look at pictures of a day of Li hua. Choose a topic to discuss our good or bad habits. And talk about reasons, results and suggestions or encouragement in group of four. Then make a report.
