ⅢTeaching procedures
Ⅰ. Greetings
Greet the students as usual.
Ⅱ. Warming-up
1. Listen to a piece of music, guess which story it is.
2.Check how much you know Journey to the west.
1) Who is the writer of this book
2)It's one of the Four Great Classical _____(novel) in China.
3)The main characters about the story,look at the pictures and use an adjective word to describe them.
Ⅲ. Reading
1. Pre-reading
Guide Ss to look at the folk tale’s name Journey to the West and SuWukong on the blackboard and the picture on their books to make a prediction before reading.
Work on 3a.Tell Ss to read the article in 3a quickly and try to find the answers to the questions:

② Who is the main character
Ss read the article quickly and try to answer the questions:
2.While-reading
1)Skimming
Ask Ss to skim the passage and identify the main idea in each paragraph.
Para1.The Monkey King is new to pupils in England but not to Chinese children.
Para2. The Monkey King can do many magical things.
Para3. Western children are also becoming interested in the story of the Monkey King.
2)Scanning
A. Read Para.1 and tell T or F. Then correct the wrong sentence.

3)Question time----- Language points
A. Group-work :Find out your difficulties in the passage, discuss in groups.
① Unless he can hide his tail, he cannot turn himself into a man.
② He can make the stick so small that he can keep it in his ear.
B. Guide Ss to find three conjunctions. There are three conjunctions that we must master.
Make Ss work in groups to discuss the usages of the conjunctions, then T gives some
explanation about them. Then Ss fill in the blanks by themselves.
Finally, check the answers. Ask Ss to write their own sentences using the conjunctions.
C. Guide Ss to read the passage carefully and then finish 3c, using the words and phrases from the passage. After going through the answers with the class, ask Ss to recite the sentences in 2 minutes. Make them recite one by one in a group.

Guide students to describe the Monkey King using an adjective word.
