四、教学过程
Step 1 Warming-up
T plays the video and asks Ss to talk about the question: Why do people move to cities
T: Hello, everyone. Before class, let’s watch the video firstly, and tell me why people want to move to cities
S1: They want to find jobs.
S2: Earn more money.

Step 2 Pre-reading
1. Learn the new words and expression.
【设计意图】通过一起读课文学习新单词,之后学生一个接一个认读新单词,可以检查学生对单词的掌握情况,同时纠正学生的发音。
2. Work on Activity 1.
(1) Ask Ss to read the words in the box.
(2) Ask Ss to work in groups and answer the questions using the words in the box.
(3) Ask some Ss to share their opinions in class.
(4) Show the possible answers in class.
【设计意图】本活动为读前预热部分,目的是激发学生已有的背景知识,增强学生的话题意识,使学生能够围绕主题发表自己的看法,为下一步阅读做好准备。
Step 3 While-reading
1. Read the passage quickly and check their answers to Activity 1.
【设计意图】本活动的目的是培养学生对课文大意的理解能力。
2. Read the passage again and match the headings with paragraphs.
3. Read the passage for the third time and check the true sentences.
【设计意图】本活动要求学生根据课文内容判断句子正误,考查学生的细节理解与判断能力。
Step 4 Post-reading
1. Complete the passage and fill the blanks with the correct form of the words in the box.
【设计意图】本活动为词汇操练活动,要求学生将所给单词以正确的形式填入短文中,通过操练帮助学生能够正确使用冠词。
2. Fill in the blanks and retell the passage.
3. Learn the language points.
(1) … It was a quiet village.
quiet 形容词,意为“寂静的,安静的”。常用短语keep/be quiet 意为“保持安静”。
(2) Jo’s family lives in one of those flats.
family 名词,意为“家;家庭”。若family作主语,强调整体时,其谓语动词用单数;强调个体时,其谓语动词用复数。
(3) The small local school in Parkville closed down five years ago …
local 形容词,意为“当地的;本地的”。
close down意为“(永久)关闭;关停”。
(4) There is a lot of traffic and pollution.
pollution 不可数名词,意为“污染”,其动词形式为pollute,意为“污染”。
(5) It needs fresh air, clean water and better public services.
public 形容词,意为“公共的;公众的”。
in public 公开的,当众的
(6) It takes an hour to get there by bus.
It takes sb. + 时间 + to do sth. 某人花费多少时间做某事
同义句型:Sb. + spend + 时间 + (in) doing sth. / on sth.
(7) It is clear that Arnwick needs more schools, buses and hospitals.
It is clear that (从句) … 意为“很清楚……”。
【设计意图】学习课文中出现的语法点,帮助学生更好地理解课文并让学生学会运用这些语法点。
4. Read the sentences and check (√) the problems that exist in their hometown.
