Procedures
Step I Before reading
Present the picture of Tom’s room, review “where” questions.
T: Look at Tom’s room, his things are here and there. Where’s his hat?
S1: It’s on the bookcase.
…….
Present the other picture ( Tim’s room)
T: This is Tom’s twin brother Tim’s room. What can you see in the room.
Ask Ss to use the target language to describe Tim’s room.
eg. The CD is on the table. ( divide the whole class into two groups, the group that makes more sentences is the winner)
Step II While reading
T: This is Tom’s room, and this is Tim’s room. Which one do you like?
Ss: Tim’s room. ( present new words: tidy, untidy, everywhere)
T: We know that Tom and Tim are twins, but they are quite different. Tim is tidy, but Tom is not. Now let’s take a look at their friends Kate and Gina. Are these two sisters the same or different? Please read the passage on Page23, and answer the questions: Is Kate tidy? Is Gina tidy? Get students to use skimming to find the key sentence. Then ask students to read the passage and find out the information they need to fill in the chart in 2c. ( T: This time, you should find out the sentences that describe Kate’s and Gina’s things and where the things are)
Ask students to finish 2c and check the answers.
Get students to read after the tape and pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation. Then explain some key words and sentences in the passage.
Get students to read this passage by themselves, then close their books, and finish some exercise. ( fill in the blanks).
Step III After reading
Get students to read another passage about Tom’s and Tim’s rooms. Finish some exercise after reading, using the reading strategies: skimming and scanning.
Homework:
Write a passage about the things in your room.
