Step 1 Passive voice 1. Show the pictures of Confucius, Shakespeare and Mark Twain to get students to talk about them in passive voice. Eg. We are still influenced by Confucius’s ideas. Shakespeare’s plays and poems are still seen and read by us today. Mark Twain’s stories are set in the south of the Us. 2. Show Liuxiang’s photos and talk about them. Eg. After 2004, he was invited to competitions around the world. He was chosen for the Chinese Team at the Athens Olympic Games. He was trained by his coach. 3. Show some photos and discuss: Will books be replaced by the Internet 4. Summarize different categories of passive voice including the structures and the usage. Make sure they can use the structures correctly and they can tell different categories. Step 2 The practice of passive voice 1. A1: Look at and talk about the pictures, describing what has happened according to the example. Active voice: car accident / happen→ A car accident has happened. Then think what will happen next. Passive voice: The driver will be taken to hospital. Check the answers with the class. 2. A2: Complete the sentences with the correct form of the words or expressions in brackets. Call back answers from the class and have them tell why. 3. A3: Complete the conversation with the correct form of the words and the expressions in brackets. 4. Guide them how to tell the tense and the passive voice or active voice. Step 3 The attributive clause 1. Show Ss some pictures from the textbook and get them to talk about them with the attributive clause. Summarize the basic usage of the clause. 2. A4: Get Ss to complete the passage with that, which or who. There may be more than one answer. Encourage to use more answers. 3. Check the answers with a partner. 4. Check the answers with the class.
