Eat more healthily. Exercise twice a week. Read more books. Lose weight. We make the same resolutions (决心)every year, but most of us fail, dying out after only a few days or, at most, weeks. Even the most successful among us has difficulty achieving (达到) it when it comes to personal change. President Barack Obama struggles to get out of his cigarette habit.
Professionals who help people make changes in their lives suggest the change is decided by one’s mind. Beginning with small goals or steps usually leads to a better result later, they say. But they notice that the experience is different for everyone.
“People are more likely to make positive (积极的)changes in their lives not only when their friends do, but when their friends of friends do, and when their friends of friends of friends do,” said Nicholas Christakis, a professor of medical sociology (医学社会学)at Harvard University. “People are better able to make changes in their lives-lose weight, give up smoking, become happy- when they do this with a large number of other people, and so using your social network ties can be helpful to your own efforts.”
Johnny Augustin understands that well. His resolution for 2008 was to reduce 30 pounds from his 237-pound frame. But the change didn’t come easily. He said, “I’m a huge procrastinator, I kept putting it off until tomorrow. I didn’t get to do it until the summer.” However, Augustin was encouraged when he saw his older brother working out. Today, Augustin weighs 190 pounds.
“Of course, change can happen only if people don’t set their goals too high or try to deal with too many changes at a time; one of the biggest mistakes we make is setting unrealistic (不现实的) goals, ” said Dalia Lilera, a psychologist at Lesley University, “You can’t achieve in a few weeks what you haven’t achieved in a few years, ”said Lilera.

33. The underlined word “procrastinator” in Paragraph 4 refers to those who ________.
A. decide to make a change B. are careless and lazy as a habit.
C. put off work especially because of laziness D. don’t want to do something great
34. According to the passage, Dalia Lilera suggested that ________.
A. people should understand their goals well
B. people should try their best to change themselves
C. people should have confidence and positive habits
D. people should start with setting small goals to meet
35. The passage is mainly about ________.
A. the reason why losing weight is so hard B. the effect of the positive change
C. the attitudes (态度)towards change in life D. the ways of making a change
C
You may have heard of the old story about the world's most whole-hearted fisherman. He had out-fished his friend all morning long. They used the same live bait (鱼饵), the same equipment and fished together in the same mountain stream. But he had almost caught a bucket of fish while his friend had yet to catch even one.
"What's your secret " asked the friend. "I haven't even gotten any one!"
The successful fisherman emptied the bait of his mouth into a cupped hand and replied. "You have to keep your worms (鱼虫) warm."
Whether or not we fish or even eat fish, there is a lesson to be learned here. We are most likely to succeed when we fully put our hearts into a task. Especially if the task before us is difficult or there seems little probability of success. Whether we want to build a new business or write that first novel, we should see how willing we are to do what it takes-even if it means keeping the worms warm.
So I often ask myself. "How much do I want this " when some people fish, if they don't catch, they don't eat. Some things are too important for me to risk failure. So how much do I want to succeed at this career (事业) or this dream And how hard am I willing to work If "success" only comes before "work" in the dictionary, I may have to work harder than I've ever worked before. But if I want it enough, the hard work will be worth it.
"Always bear in mind," said Abraham Lincoln, "that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other one thing."
And that is where it always begins: with a whole-hearted resolution to succeed—in a task, in a career, in a life. How much do you want this And, how hard are you willing to work Start there, and great things can happen.
36. Paragraph 1 is mainly about the old story of ________.
A. two friends B. Abraham Lincoln C. some baits D. a fisherman
37. The lesson we learned is to ________ from Paragraphs 2-4.
A. only keep the worms warm B. write the first novel soon
C. put our hearts into any task D. be willing to do nothing
38. Why does the writer often ask himself the two questions
A. See if he has been whole-hearted. B. Be able to risk failure anytime.
C. Find out if the hard work is worth it. D. Work less harder than before.
39. What does the word "it" in Paragraph 5 refer to
A. Career. B. Dream. C. Success. D. Work.
40. What does the writer want to tell us according to the last two paragraphs
A. Own your resolution is the most important.
B. Do as Abraham Lincoln says, you'll succeed.
C. To succeed begins with a whole-hearted resolution.
D. Start anywhere, and great things can always happen.
D 阅读还原

A. people should understand their goals well
B. people should try their best to change themselves

D. people should start with setting small goals to meet
