Reading and Thinking教学设计
科目：英语 课题：Reading and Thinking 课时：1课时
教学目标与核心素养：
知识目标：引导学生了解支教的困难和意义。
能力目标：运用阅读技巧，理清文章脉络，把握文章主要内容。
情感目标：帮助学生辩证地看待问题，形成积极乐观的心态和扶危救困的观念。
教学重难点
教学重点：通过分析和提炼引导学生了解支教的困难和意义。
教学难点：引导学生辩证地看待问题，树立正确的价值观，形成积极乐观的心态和扶危救困的观念。
课前准备：多媒体，黑板，粉笔
教学过程：
一、Pre-reading
1. Greeting
2. Leading-in
教师活动：（1）教师简要介绍的情况，并提问：
①What does "needy" mean here
②Who are the needy What do they need
③Why should we help them
（2）教师介绍Jo作为志愿者教师这一背景信息。学生在教师提示下预测当地需要哪些帮助，
以及Jo支教时可能遇到的挑战。教师可提示：
Jo worked for two years as a volunteer teacher there, can you predict the kind of help people need there, and the challenges Jo might have faced
2、 While- reading
1. 学生活动：What does Jo mainly talk about in her blogs (Her experience of voluntary teaching at a bush school and a visit to a local family. the challenges she met, and the positive aspects of her voluntary work. She also shared her feelings and attitudes to her voluntary work, the people, and the life there)
Where was Jo in her two blogs and what were the places like (At the bush school and the home of one of her students. The classrooms were made of bamboo, with clay floors and roofs of grass. The student's house was a low, round bamboo hut without windows, with a door just big enough to get through, and with grass sticking out of the roof. The house was dark inside, with fresh grass laid on the floor and a platform to sleep on.)
2. 学生活动：阅读文章，回答下列问题。
（1）What do you think "the bush" means
It means that the classrooms are made of bamboo, with roofs of grass.
（2）What has been Jo's most challenging subject to teach Why
Science has been her most challenging subject as her students have no concept of doing experiments.
（3）What did Jo notice about the homes in the village she visited
The house was a low, round bamboo hut with no windows, with a door just big enough to get through, and with grass sticking out of the roof. Such housing was dark inside so it took time for her eyes to adjust. Fresh grass had been laid on the floor.
（4）What did Jo notice after the meal
She noticed a can standing upside down on the grill over the fire. After a while, Tombe threw it out of the doorway.
（5）What is Jo's general impression of the place and people there
The place is remote and poor, and the people there are friendly.
3. 教师活动：教师引导学生完成活动4的表格。

三、After-reading
学生活动： 学生结成小组，讨论活动5：
（1）Jo felt it was a privilege to have spent a day with Tombe's family. If you were Jo, how do you think you would have felt Why
I would have felt privileged as well, as it was a rare chance to glimpse into another culture that most people will never have.
（2）What are the differences between the school you go to and the one described in the passage
I go to a school that has all the conveniences of modern society, so there is no comparison at all. We have plenty of equipment and supplies, comfortable chairs, air conditioning, computers, etc.
（3）Would you like to become a volunteer teacher Why or why not
I think it would be interesting to do that for a while. It would be a good opportunity to make a difference to someone else's life, and also to learn about a new culture.
