Recently I had a trip to Sydney with my parents. We visited the Wildlife Park.
The Wildlife Park has lots of different animals. Some are native(当地的) to Australia and can only be found there. There are more than 500 animals there, including kangaroos, koalas(考拉) and crocodiles(鳄鱼). They are kept in their natural environment. I like the Wildlife Park better than a zoo. In zoos, most of the animals are in cages(笼子).
We first spent some time with the kangaroos. We could touch and feed them. It was very exciting to be so close to them. There were koalas there too. They looked very cuddly(令人想拥抱的). Although we couldn’t carry koalas, I could take a photo with one. It is a wonderful souvenir(纪念品) of my holiday in Sydney.
The Wildlife Park has plenty of freshwater and saltwater crocodiles. Some of them are very big and scary(吓人的) with huge teeth! I did not want to get too close to them.
There was also a bird show. The keepers showed us different species(种类) of birds. I saw an old parrot(鹦鹉). It could “talk” and made a great impression on me.

What do you think of when you think of a tower Most people think of something tall. They also think of something that goes straight up. Most towers are like that, but one famous tower is different. It is tall. Instead of rising straight up, though, it leans to one side. It is in a city called Pisa.So the tower is called “the leaning tower of Pisa”.
Pisa is a town in Italy. Its history goes back to ancient times. The tower was started in 1174. It wasn’t finished until 1350, 176 years later. When it was finished, it was leaning to one side.
People aren’t quite sure why the tower leans. It began to lean soon after the building was started. The base of the tower was set in sand. Maybe this is why it began to lean. When only three stories were completed, the tower was already leaning. The builders made the tower higher and higher.
Today the tower is about 180 feet high. That’s about 15 stories. The walls are beautiful white marble. A stairway is built into the walls. People climb 300 steps to get to the top. At the top, a person might be afraid. That’s because the top part leans out over 16 feet. If you dropped a stone from the top, it would land 16 feet from the wall at the bottom.
Some people think the tower will fall one day. Each year it leans a tiny bit more. In the last hundred years, it has leaned another foot. Tourists still climb to the top. They like the wide view of the town and the sea. They also like to say, “I climbed to the top of Pisa’s leaning tower.”
( )57.How many years did it take to finish building the Pisa’s leaning tower
A.1174. B.1350. C.176. D.300.

D.The leaning tower of Pisa has stopped leaning in the last hundred years.

Do you know what the world looked like millions of years ago Although it’s impossible to travel back in time, we can still get some information from fossils(化石).
An international research team led by Chinese scientists has found some fossils in Zhangpu County in Fujian Province. They call the group the Zhangpu Biota(生物群).The biota includes around 25,000 amber(琥珀) fossils and 5,000 plant fossils. They are nearly 15 million years old! “The amber fossils have kept the ancient insects quite well, making it a natural ‘museum’ of old life,” a researcher said.
Scientists first found the Zhangpu biota in 2010. They kept doing research there and made several big discoveries(发现). According to scientific researchers, there was a strong warming event between 17 million and 14 million years ago. At that time, the carbon dioxide(二氧化碳) in the air was higher than the general level, and the common temperature was 3-7℃ higher than today, which may be very similar to the environment in 2100. Therefore, understanding the changing process of climate and biota during that period is meaningful to predict the future.
Scientists have found more than 200 families of insects, including bees and ants. The research shows that the Zhangpu Amber Biota is one of the world’s four largest amber biotas. This study aims to understand the change of modern Asian tropical rainforest ecosystems(热带雨林生态系统) and how it provides information for future climate warming.

A.The scientists. B.The fossils.
C.The plants. D.The amber.
( )62.Why do we call the Zhangpu biota a natural “museum”
A.Because it has about 25,000 amber fossils.
B.Because it has about 5,000 plant fossils.
C.Because the amber fossils show us the ancient insects clearly.
D.Because it is one of the world’s four largest amber biotas.
( )63.According to the passage, how long have scientists studied the Zhangpu biota
A.For hundreds of years. B.For about 50 years.
C.For more than 100 years. D.For only about 10 years.
( )64.What can we know from Paragraph 3
A.There were 5,000 kinds of plants in Zhangpu.
B.The fossilized plants once lived in a tropical rainforest.
C.The temperature in the future may be higher.
D.The insects found in the fossils are no longer seen today.
( )65.This passage is written to .
A.help readers learn about the Zhangpu biota
B.show how the earth’s environment changed
C.ask readers to protect animals and plants
D.introduce a natural history museum to readers
Ⅸ.任务型阅读(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,按要求完成66~70题。
Animals do many different, amazing things to get through the winter. Some of them migrate. They travel to other places where the weather is warmer or where they can find food.
Many birds migrate in autumn. Because the trip can be dangerous, some travel in large groups. For example, geese fly in noisy, V-shaped groups. Other kinds of birds fly alone.
Some animals stay active in winter. They must change themselves as the weather changes. Many change their doing or their bodies. For example, snowshoe rabbits grow white thicker fur to help them hide in the snow.
Food is hard to find in winter. Some animals, like mice, collect lots of food in autumn and store it to eat later. Some animals eat different kinds of food as the seasons change.
Some animals hibernate(冬眠) for part or all of the winter. This is a special, very deep sleep. The animal’s body temperature drops, and its heartbeat and breathing slow down. It uses very little energy. In autumn, these animals get ready for winter by eating much more food than in summer and storing it as body fat. They use this fat to keep them alive while hibernating.
Water makes good protection for many animals. When the weather gets cold, they move to the bottom of lakes and rivers. There, frogs and many fish hide under rocks or fallen leaves. Cold water holds more oxygen than warm water, and frogs can breathe through their skin.
Every type of insect(昆虫) has its own life cycle and that is the way it grows and changes. Different insects spend the winter in different forms of their lives. Some insects also spend the winter without moving. Some insects spend the winter as pupae(蛹). Other insects die after laying eggs in autumn. The eggs change into new insects in spring and everything begins all over again.

Of all the things we eat and drink, water is the most important. Not many people understand this but it is quite true. The human body can go without food for a long time, but two or three days without water will make people die. Many people do not understand how much water the human body needs and they do not drink enough, especially in hot weather. Most people drink when they feel thirsty. They often need more water especially when they take exercise. A man’s body has 65% to 70% water. If we do not have enough water, we will feel tired and may become ill.

62.C 细节理解题。由第二段最后一句中的“The amber fossils have kept the ancient insects quite well, making it a natural ‘museum’ of old life”可知,这些琥珀化石使这些古代的昆虫保存完好。
63.D 数字计算题。由第三段第一句“Scientists first found the Zhangpu biota in 2010.”可知,科学家2010年首次发现漳浦生物群,由此可计算出,科学家研究漳浦生物群只有约10年的时间。
64.C 推理判断题。由第三段倒数第二句“…and the common temperature was 3-7℃ higher than today, which may be very similar to the environment in 2100.”可知,在2100年,气温可能会升高3-7℃。由此可推断,未来的气温可能会升高。

Dear editor,
I am Li Hua.Yesterday I read a report about how to protect tigers in a newspaper. Now I want to tell you something about wild animals. There are a lot of wild animals living on the same earth with us.They are our friends. One of them is the tiger.Tigers are national protected animals. But now the number of tigers is becoming smaller and smaller. One reason is that people cut down many trees, so tigers have no place to live in.Another one is that some people kill the tigers and sell their fur to make money.People who do that must be punished.I think it is our duty to protect the wild animals.Let’s try our best to make a happy home for human beings and animals.
Yours,
Li Hua
