一、教学目标
Knowledge aims:
1.Get the students to learn the words and phrases:
The earth, in Asia, the Yangtze River, the Yellow River, the Nile, in Africa, the Caspian Sea, Qomolangma, desert, the Sahara, square kilometers
2.The students will be able to use the expressions:
What’s the highest mountain/the longest river/ the deepest salt lake/ the biggest desert in the world
to express the big numbers using: thousand, million, billion, kilometer long/deep/high
Ability aims:
1. The students can use the questions to get information to improve their listening and speaking abilities.
2. To train the students’ cooperation with their partners.
Emotional aims:
To train the students to care about the world’s environment through talking about the world’s tops.

Teaching important points:
The comparative and superlative of adj.
Note its grammar meaning and use “what” questions to ask about the world’s tops
Teaching difficult points:
The students can ask questions to get information to improve their listening and speaking abilities.

Step 1 Grammar previewThe superlative of adj. Students say the superlative of the adj. 1. Get Ss to review some Grammar meaning of this unit.
Step 2 Presentation & talkShow on the screen some pictures and learn the new words. 1. Practice the conversations like this:A: What is the longest river in China B: The Yangtze River.2. go on talking.The Nile is the longest river in the world. It is 6.671 kilometers longIt is in Africa. Get the students to use the structure in a proper way. Pay attention to the names of the places in the sentence.
Step3 Activity 1a1. Get the students to read through the pictures in Activity 1a and match.2. Get them to make the information into a sentence. Read and match the statements with the right picture.talking:the Yangtze River is about 6.300kilometers long. To train Ss’ listening skills by catching the key words (verb/place).Pay attention to the big numbers.
Step 4 ListeningGet the students to listen and complete the sentences.Listen again and listen and repeat after the tape. 1. Listen and complete the sentences.2. Listen again and try to understand key sentences in the listening material. To train Ss’ listening skills by catching the key words(adj.).
Step 5 Pair workGet the students to have a pairwork, talking about the places in the picture.Show on the Screen some other pictures and go on the above talk. 1.
