Reading (I)
一、教学目标
1. 掌握本课重点词汇和短语：try out for sth., lose heart, score, change one’s mind, leader, university, national, succeed, succeed in doing sth., although, force, remain, take notice of, matter
2. 掌握本课重点句型：
No university would invite him to play basketball simply because he was only 170 cm tall.
He remained there for about a year before the NBA took notice of him.
Spud Webb proved that size and body do not matter — you can do almost anything if you never give up.

Step 1 Warming-up
1. Guide Ss to talk about basketball and basketball players.
(1) Do you like basketball
(2) Who is your favourite basketball player
(3) Why do you like him/her
【设计意图】引导学生谈论篮球和篮球手，引出话题，为后面的阅读做准备。
Step 2 Pre-reading
1. Guide Ss to look at the pictures and answer the questions.
(1) Do you know who he is
(2) What makes a person a wonderful basketball player
(3) Basketball players are usually very tall, aren’t they
(4) What do you know about him
【设计意图】通过展示著名篮球手的图片，引导学生关注Spud Webb，为阅读进行预热。
2. Guide Ss to predict what the article is about from the title.
【设计意图】引导学生通过标题推测文章大意，提升学生阅读能力。
Step 3 While-reading
1. Guide Ss to read the passage and match the main idea with each paragraph.
