Alan Tattersall, from Australia, was preparing to go to Houston for business. He would spend 32
hours on the plane. His 17-year-old daughter Grace, thought her father’s snoring(打呼噜) was so bad

because their babies might be crying.” Grace explained.

Dana Csonka is an adult now. When she was 8her house caught on fire. The fire left bum scars(伤疤)
over 18 percent of her body, including on her face neck and arms. She got better and returned to school. Her classmates were mean, though. They made fun of her sears. “I didn’t have any friends," she said.
Her nurses at the hospital had a suggestion. They said she should go to a camp for kids who had been
burned. She went there every summer for 10 years. It helped her feel better. She met kids who could
understand what she went through.
The bum camp started in 1988. Since then, it has been offering children with bum scars a week of
relief(解脱)from looking different. Campers go there to swim, play games and do many other things.
Kevin Aeling is 14. This is his second summer at the camp. A year and a half ago, a terrible fire left
scars over 25 percent of his body.
At first, he was not sure if he wanted to go to the camp. He said, “I don’t want people to stare at me,”
said his mother. “I said, Kevin, it’s a bum camp. Other people are there who have burns. He ended up
loving it. After camp, his mother noticed a difference. He was no longer embarrassed about the special

Every year, the Thursday of the camp week is Fire Truck Day Fire trucks arrive, along wit campers from previous(以前的)years, doctors and nurses, and family members. Campers can see fire trucks up close and talk with firefighters. Sometimes, they are the very firefighters who rescuer the campers
