Period 1 Listening and Speaking
Ⅰ.The analysis of teaching content
The theme of the listening and speaking part is “Get ready to travel”. The listening text consists of two conversations. In the first conversation, Meilin tells Paul about her aunt’s plan of travelling to Europe. In the second conversation, Paul talks about his parents’ plan of travelling to Lijiang. During the listening part, students will learn to focus on key words to grasp the main idea while listening. Moreover, they will also learn many expressions about making travel plans. The speaking part provides students with information about Neuschwanstein Castle, a well-known tourist attraction in Germany, and Jiuzhaigou in China. Students are required to choose one travel destination and share their travel plan with the class.After finishing the listening and speaking part, students are expected to enhance their abilities of making plans and English communicative competence regarding the topic of travelling.
Ⅱ.The analysis of students
This lesson is for senior one students in my school. As to the topic travelling, the students show great interest in it and they would like to know more about travel. However, they are weak in English learning and lack of large vocabulary, so they have much difficulty in listening and speaking.What’s more, they are lack of the awareness of using listening skills and strategies.Therefore, during the teaching period, the teacher should give them more guidance during listening and speaking activities.
Ⅲ.Teaching objectives:
By the end of this class, the students will be able to:
1.listen to conversations and fill the related exercises.
2.grasp the tips of listening----listening for the key words.
3.master some words and expressions related to make preparations for a travel.
4. have the awareness of teamwork and improve their communication skills.
Ⅳ.Important and difficult points

(1) Help students to master the main idea and detailed information and learn listening skills.
(2) Make travel plans and describe them orally.
2.Difficult points
(1) Apply what they’ve learned to their own conversations about travel plans and travel preparations.
(2)Enable the students to use “be doing”to express their future plans.

Activity 1: Look and discuss(Opening Page )

Activity 2: Before listening

1.Show students some pictures of local tourist attractions in Shiquan and world famous tourist attractions, then ask them one question. 2.Show the pictures of The Eiffel Tower, Lijiang, Neuschwanstein Castle and Tianshan and give some brief introduction to those places. 3.Show some pictures and guide students to know what they need to do to prepare for the trip if they travel abroad. 1.Look at pictures of tourist attractions and answer the question. 2.Enjoy the pictures and talk about something about those four places. 3.Think about what they need to do to prepare for the trip if they travel abroad.
Purpose of design:To enable students to get more information about some famous tourist attractions around the world and learn some words and expressions to get prepared for the activities which follow.

1.Ask students to choose a travel destination and show them some tips to think about how to make a travel plan. 2.Show a sample dialogue, and underline some useful expressions. 3.Ask students to work with their partners to make conversations about making a travel plan. 1.Think about how to make a travel plan. 2.Read the sample dialogue and imitate to make their own travel plans. 3.Try to make conversations with their partners using expressions they have learnt in the class.
Purpose of design: to give students a chance to apply what they have learnt in the previous listening activities through speaking.
Activity5.Homework
Ask students to use the “be doing” structure to describe their travel plan for winter holiday .
Write at least 60 to 80words for your travel plan.
Purpose of design: to consolidate what they have learnt in class and improve their writing ability.
