第一节、阅读选择(40分)
A
April 22nd is World Earth Day—a day to remind people to protect the earth. So on that day, our family held an activity “bottle of trash challenge”. That means the trash needs to be put in a 600ml bottle. We decided to challenge ourselves and produce as little trash as possible.
My father worked online all day, so he didn’t produce any paper waste except paper napkins. He made the least trash in our family.
My mother cooked and produced plenty of kitchen waste, such as vegetable leaves, eggshells and food bags. What’s worse, we couldn’t eat up all the food of the dinner that day. So leftovers couldn’t be avoided. It was not easy for mom to deal with all the trash, but she found a way to put it all into the bottle. How amazing!
My sister, a 16-year-old student, was busy preparing for her exams. She had to use paper to work out math or physics problems. She used only one side of the paper in the past. But that day, she tried to use both sides of the paper because she realized we were challenging ourselves. She did a good job!
I was different from my sister. I love snacks and drinks. So my trash was almost from them. I was highly alert(警觉的) that I must produce less waste. I hardly ever had snacks or drinks. It was too difficult, but I did it!
I’ve learnt a lot from this activity. I realize that everyone can produce less trash. We should start with small actions to protect the earth!

It is not possible to tell the importance of forests in just a few words. Forests affect(影响) our daily lives in so many ways, even in the busy noisy city center. Just think about your life today: Do you have your breakfast Read a newspaper Turn on a light Travel to work in a bus or car Do your homework Write on your notebook Clean your hands with a tissue
Forest products are used in our daily lives. All the activities above have something to do with forests. Some are easy to point out—fruits, paper and wood from trees, and so on. Others are less obvious(明显的)—they help make daily products like medicine. They not only help make our lives more convenient, but also make our Earth more beautiful and comfortable.
Forests help protect the sea, and the Earth is in good health because of them.
However, we are losing them. Over the past 50 years, about half the world’s forests have been lost. The most important reason for that is people’s activities like polluting the environment and cutting down trees.
When we destroy the forests, we not only lose the trees. All the animals in the forests will also lose their homes. As this goes on, it’ll be harder and harder for us to survive on the Earth.

【答案】Dear Mr Mayor,
I’m from Westtown School in the USA. I came to Guangzhou as an exchange student. I like this city, but I don't think the environment here is good enough.
As far as I am concerned, there are two main pollution. The first problem is white pollution. White pollution can be seen everywhere. The reason is that people use too many disposable things, such as plastic and plastic lunch boxes. To solve this problem, we should try our best to use our own cups and lunch boxes. If we do that, it not only can help reduce the white pollution but also keep healthy. The second problem is the air quality. There are too many cars in the road, which makes the air bad. To improve the air quality, we are supposed to take public transportation. It is a good idea to take the bus and ride shared bike.
I hope the environment in your city gets better and better.
Yours sincerely,
Alex
