Welcome
T: Class begins. Good morning, everyone. Now first let’s enjoy our eyes. They look so delicious,don’t they Well, I’m curious what did you eat this morning
Ss: Bread,noddles,rice...and so on.
T: yes, your breakfast may be bread, noddle, rice, or something else. or maybe nothing(切换下一张) If so, your are just Carol,the girl who often skips breakfast. So have you ever thought about the question: What could happen if teenagers often skip breakfast
T:Right. It may lead to some bad results, such as have a stomach, low blood sugar, dong’t have much strength, or maybe something more terrible will happen. Ok now let’s see what happened to the girl in this video
Step 1 lead in
Ss: she fainted in the underground.
T:Do you think senior high school students should pay much attention to their weight
S: No. Because it may make teen faint sometimes.
Step 2:Pre-reading
T: ok now, look at this title and the first paragraph, can you predict what type of writing is it
A news report (新闻报道) or Narration(记叙文)?S:
T: can you tell me the features of the title It’s short, attractive, and tell us the main idea.
What does the news title mainly tell us Excellent, we choose A.
Step3: Global reading---for the main idea(A1)
T: It’s easy for us to know the article include three parts. now I’ll give you 3 mins to go through the news report and finish the blanks on the screen. If you find the answer, plz underline them.
T: And then more detailed information about the news are presented in the body, followed by the background or supporting information in the tail. It is call an inverted pyramid structure. So now let’s read the lead together.
Step4 Detailed reading--- the lead (Para1.)
T: Usually the lead will tell us the topic and the most import information(板书). The lead tells us about 5Ws. They are who/what/ when/where/and why. For example, A teenage girl- who...
Step4 Detailed reading--- the body (Paras. 2-4)
T: now listen to the tape and try to figure out what did Jennifer do according to the time line. Here we go.
T: What did Jennifer’s friend, Laura tell the reporter
S: She has not eaten breakfast for the last few months.
T: what did her parents say
S: The night of 26 October--She hardly touched her dinner
Breakfast time of 27 October--She missed her breakfast.
T; and finally what happened to Jennifer
S: She passed out in her PE lesson.
T: What did Laura do when she found out Jennifer was skipping meals (PPT上没有)
S: She warned Jennifer that skipping meals was unhealthy, but she wouldn't listen.
Step4 Detailed reading---the tail (Para.5)
T: there’s a survey in Para 5. now plz go through this paragraph and find what do these figures mean respectively
S:1/5- Regularly skip meals; 1/10-Over -exercise;4%-Take weight-loss medicine
T: What phenomenon(现象)does the survey show
T:The survey shows that many teenagers are using extreme methods to lose weight.
(Does the survey show many teenagers are using good ways to lose weight or improper ways )
T: Here’s another question: why do teenagers want to lose weight (PPT上没有)
S: They want to stay slim to make themselves beautiful.
T: But why do they use extreme methods
S: Because we are in a society where being thin is often seen as being beautiful.
T: Yes. That’s the society should be to blame. Our society should guide teenagers to help them solve weight problems appropriately.
T:2)Why are so many figures used in para5
S:to make the news report accurate(准确的) and objective(客观的)
T:How do the health experts feel about these figures (Para. 5)
S: They are concerned.
T: An expert also give us some suggestions. Plz read Paras 6-7 and fill in the blanks.
Step5 Post reading
T: after learning this article, can you tell Jennifer how to lose weight properly Now have a discussion with your partner and figure out the proper ways to lose weight.
T: eat healthily, exercise regularly, sleep well, drink more water, reduce stress...
Step6 Summary
T: well everyone, in this article, we mainly learned about a news report, whose title is short,attractive and tells the main idea. Then is the lead, which usually includes 5Ws. That’s who/what/when/where and why. Followed by the body and the tail.
Step7 Group Work: Writing a Lead
T: so here comes an exercise. Look at the picture. There is a news report about the “The Most Beautiful Rural Teacher”--Zhang Guimei, but it lack the lead. Plz work in group of 4 and try to write a lead for the article in 5 mins. Pay attention to the 5Ws and use as few words as possible in a lead.

T: well. We can conclude that though Zhaung Guimei doesn’t has a beautiful face, she is as beautiful as Audrey Hepburn. Just as Hepburn said, Beauty is being the best possible version of yourself on the inside and out. We should be confident, devoted, optimistic devoted etc. to make ourselves beautiful and attractive inside. The most important thing is that we should accept the true you, instead caring too much about others’ opinions, which can make you more attractive.
