Golden sands and 300 days of sunshine each year mean Barcelona’s shoreline is filled with a heated atmosphere year-round. Here’s our guide to the city’s best beaches.
Bogatell
This beach used to be an industrial wasteland. Sand was imported from Egypt and a center of beach sports was born.
The easy access to two subway stops and the variety of activities make Bogatell a good
option for vacationers looking for a more relaxed atmosphere than the packed beaches to the south. At the north end, the Nautica Base offers lessons for windsurfing, kitesurfing and sailing.
Mar Bella
With the cleanest sand and water area in the city, Mar Bella has been appointed as a blue-flag beach. It’s less obviously attached to the city, though still well served by public transport.
Mar Bella also exhibits (展示) another example of the city’s free attitude. On one end of
the beach is a rope pyramid (金字塔) for kids and a small playground with a slide.
Sant Sebastia
Sant Sebastia is one of the oldest swimming areas in the city. Its quiet environment
and convenience to the center of town draw an older crowd in the morning. By afternoon, the quite crowd gives way to a noisier gathering of younger people.
Llevant
Some special activities make the northernmost beach an ideal destination for a family to spend a full day. In the morning you could hit up the Bose Urba, an adventure park
with bungee and rope bridges. A few blocks away, there’s the Museum Blau, a natural
science museum where different species of dinosaurs are on show. And a sand-free swimming area called Banys Forum sits just to the north, with steps leading into the water.
21.Which of the following is an ideal place for a tourist to learn surfing lessons
A.Banys Forum. B.The Bose Urba
C.Sant Sebastia. D.The Nautica Base.
22.What makes Mar Bella differ from the other beaches
A.The relaxed atmosphere. B.Colorful beach activities.
C.Playing equipment for children. D.Convenient public transport.
23.What can a tourist do in Llevant
A.Play beach sports. B.Watch a dinosaur display.
C.Swim in the oldest swimming area. D.Enjoy the cleanest beach in Barcelona.

Kim Ja-in was born to climb. Her parents met and fell in love in the mountains. Her mother climbed, her father climbed, and both her elder brothers climbed. It was only natural that she would join them. But while she was the last to start, Kim outclimbed her family a long time ago — in fact, few others can climb to the same height as her.
Kim, 30, is a superstar of the sport climbing world. As a previous world champion, she
faces a new challenge: the Olympics. At the Tokyo 2020, sport climbing appears for the
first time. The competition will combine bouldering climbing (抱石攀岩), lead climbing
and speed climbing. Kim has already qualified for the South Korean national team, and
the team begins its Olympic qualification efforts later this summer. Kim is good at lead climbing, but Tokyo 2020 is throwing up new challenges. “I have to do speed climbing,

which I’ve never done before,” she explained, “It has been hard recently because of that.”
As an ambassador (大使) for the sport, she’s gone to extreme lengths to raise climbing’s public attention in South Korea. In 2017, Kim climbed the 555-meter Lotte World Tower in Seoul. “I thought it would be a good way to let people know about sport climbing,” Kim
said.
Kim has climbed for 19 years. She said, “I will take the Tokyo 2020 as a chance to prove myself.” She enjoys the chance to stand in front of a new wall and climb it for the first time. “When I finish a climb, that sense of achievement and joy are the biggest attraction,” she explained. “Climbing is everything to me.”

My college roommate and I decided to decorate our dormitory (寝室). We thought that colored lights would be perfect. But having none, we painted all of our light bulbs red.
When we turned the lights on, the room shone with a dark and blood-red light.
I learned a couple of things about painted light bulbs. I learned, first, that one can’t study by red lighting. Not that studying was the most important for us, but the dark red bulbs were of no help. And very quickly I learned something else: Paint burns. Smoke from our bulbs sent us outside for breath.
Colored bulbs may be nice to look at, but they don’t give much light. We put up
colored lights as decoration. They are designed to call attention to themselves, but never to light a room. We might say. “Aren’t they pretty ” But we do not use them to illumine
(照明) an area. Clear lights, on the other hand, show off all that is nearby. We may put a
directional light at a wall and said, “What a lovely painting!.”
Clear lights illumine the world around us. I wonder if people are like lights, too. We
may say of someone, “Isn’t she smart She always amazes me with her brilliance.” And of another we might say, “I always feel better when he is around. He seems to know me. And he believes in me.”
It is as if one shines so brilliantly that the room is filled with a colorful light. But the
other shines on those nearby, clearly illuminating their goodness. If I am to be a light in this world, I think I’ll lose the paint. Clear lights are best.
28.Why did they paint the lights in the dormitory red
A.They had no colored lights.
B.They all liked the red colour best.
C.They wanted to decorate their dormitory.
D.They lacked money to buy other ones.
29.Which is the disadvantage of the painted red bulbs
A.They look bright. B.They burn easily.
C.They have an effect on sleep. D.They do help students’ study.
30.How does the author clarify the colored bulbs and clear lights
A.By listing facts. B.By taking examples.
C.By making a comparison. D.By giving a description.
31.What are clear lights like according to the author
A.Brilliant people. B.The virtual world.

You’ve probably experienced this before: when returning from a round trip, the trip home felt shorter. What is the scientific basis for this
Some theories include the power of expectation. Especially for vacations, the
anticipation of finally reaching your destination can make the experience of traveling there feel longer because you can’t wait to get there. Additionally, if the trip to the location takes longer than expected, we may readjust our expectations of the length of the trip so that the trip back feels shorter and thus more pleasant.
Another theory is how humans take time to learn and become more familiar with new
sights. When faced with new stimuli or experiences, we feel as if time is getting slower to allow more brain processing time. This contributes to why elder people often remark that time goes faster the more they age because being older often means fewer new experiences, so there is less need for the brain to interpret time more slowly to pay more attention to solving a problem.
In the case of the “return trip effect,” after viewing the landmarks on the road while
getting to the destination, it is easier to recognize these points on the way back. Having less sense of puzzle and being more certain of one’s surroundings can make time feel faster. This is similar to how many activities can feel natural after learning the process. For example, when you first learn to ride a bike, you carefully strategize your speed and balance, but after a while of practicing, your mind is freer to wander off.
This “return trip effect” is most notably noticed after reflecting on how long a trip to an
unfamiliar location took. This explains why the “return trip effect” is usually associated with vacations and not daily commutes to work or school because by then, the sights are so familiar that humans can more accurately measure the time spent going to and back from a location.
32.Why do elder people feel time flies
A.They have fewer new stimuli to process.
B.They have low expectations for the future.
C.Their problem-solving ability declines.
D.Their brain tends to misinterpret time.
33.What does the example of learning to ride a bike in paragraph 4 prove
A.Practice makes perfect.
B.Familiarity speeds up time.
C.The journey of life is full of uncertainties.
D.Similar landmarks cause confusion with time.
34.Which trip may feel the longest
A.The trip to school. B.The trip to a strange place.
C.The trip home from school. D.The trip home from a strange place.
35.What is the best title for the text
A.How can we make a long trip relatively short
B.What is the scientific basis for time travel
C.How long can the “return trip effect” last
D.Why does the “return trip effect” occur

My parents came to the US from India in the 1960s, along with other immigrants from India. Back then, there were few Indians anywhere around the US. My father came to Kansas, where he would get his Ph.D.Six months later, my mother came with the three of us
kids — my sister, my brother, and me. We were just six, five and three years old then.
It was the very first winter when we were in Kansas. It was so cold, but we didn’t have heavy coats or warm clothes. We didn’t have a concept of how cold it really could be in the Midwest, and there was a new surprise every day. We didn’t have a car or anything like that, and my dad didn’t have a US driver’s license. But anyway, my father was
studying for his Ph.D., and he would walk up and down a big hill to and from the campus
on a regular basis.
Since I was three years old, I didn’t go to school, but my sister and brother were in
school. My father had to walk down the big hill to take them to school every day and then walk back up the hill to go to university. After about three weeks of living like this, a woman called Valerie, whose son John was in the same class as my brother, started noticing them. On a very cold snowy morning, when they went to school as usual,Valerie passed by. She pulled up and said, “I see you on the way every day. Don’t you feel cold without coats ”My father responded,“We didn’t expect the weather would be so cold in Kansas.”Valerie said,“Maybe I can take your daughter and son to school. Would you like a ride ”
Paragraph 1:Hearing that, my dad nodded with great joy.

Follow Traffic Rules
Nowadays, breaking traffic rules is not uncommon in our city. For example, some citizens cross the road whenever they like, totally ignoring the traffic lights and the pedestrian crossing. This improper behavior has caused a series of traffic accidents every year.
As for me, I will keep traffic rules in mind all the way. If I ride a bike, I’ll always keep to the right and never cross a road until the traffic light turns green. If I walk over the road, I’ll never forget to use the pedestrian crossing. Meanwhile, I will regard it as my duty to help children and senior citizens cross the road.
To keep the road orderly and people safe, everyone should follow traffic rules. I hope what we do can make a difference.
Paragraph 1:
Hearing that, my dad nodded with great joy. He said, “That would be great. That’s very kind of you.” Then my sister and brother got into Valerie’s car on the freezing cold day. After expressing their thanks to Valerie, they greeted John with a smile. After a while, a faint flush rose to my brother’s cheeks because of the warm wind in the car, and my sister had a broad smile on her face. Seeing that, Valerie decided to continue the act from then on.
Paragraph 2:
Later, Valerie and her family became so dear to my family. It just started with this small act of offering a ride, and afterwards the relationship between the two families gradually deepened. We kids have been close friends with John. Valerie and my mother also became very close. Valerie and her family tried to help us in other aspects, such as offering us warm clothes we were in urgent need of at that time. And my mother loved to cook Indian food for Valerie’s family. We all believed that our friendship would last forever.

This contributes to why elder people often remark that time goes faster the more they age because being older often means fewer new experiences, so there is less need for the brain to interpret time more slowly to pay more attention to solving a problem.(当我们面对新的刺激或经历时,我们会觉得时间变慢了,让大脑有更多的时间来处理。 故选A。
根据第四段中“In the case of the “return trip effect,” after viewing the landmarks on the road while getting to the destination, it is easier to recognize these points on the way back. Having less sense of puzzle and being more certain of one’s surroundings can make time feel faster.(在“回程效应”的情况下,在到达目的地时查看道路上的地标后,在返回途中更容易识别这些点。较少的谜题感和对周围环境的确定性会让人感觉时间过得更快)”接着作者指出许多活动也是这样,学会了过程就会觉得很自然,并以学骑自行车为例证明了这一观点。可推知,学骑自行车的例子主要就是为了证明熟悉以后就会感觉很自然,就会感觉时间过得更快。故选B。
34.细节理解题。根据最后一段“This “return trip effect” is most notably noticed after reflecting on how long a trip to an unfamiliar location took. This explains why the “return trip effect” is usually associated with vacations and not daily commutes to work or school because by then, the sights are so familiar that humans can more accurately measure the time spent going to and back from a location.(这种“回程效应”在考虑到一个陌生的地方要花多长时间后最为明显。这就解释了为什么“回程效应”通常与假期有关,而不是每天上班或上学的通勤,因为那时的景色是如此熟悉,人们可以更准确地测量往返于一个地点所花的时间)”可知,前往一个陌生的地方会使人感觉用时最长。故选B。
35.主旨大意题。根据第一段“You’ve probably experienced this before: when returning from a round trip, the trip home felt shorter. What is the scientific basis for this (你以前可能有过这样的经历:当从一个往返的旅程回来时,回家的旅程感觉更短了。这样做的科学依据是什么?)”结合本文主要解释了为什么回程会使人感觉用时较少,D项“为什么会出现‘回程效应’?”作标题最恰当。故选D。

36.根据上文“Now some new science suggests that daydreaming may actually make us happier and more creative.(现在一些新的科学表明,做白日梦实际上可能让我们更快乐,更有创造力。)” 故选A项。
37.根据上文“A study found that people who mind—wandered performed better on their task, the answer coming to them in a flash.(一项研究发现,走心的人在任务上表现得更好,答案会瞬间出现。)”和下文“it was just suddenly there.(只是突然出现。)”
本段主旨句“Now, findings from a 2021 study suggest that mind—wandering can actually improve your mood.(现在2021 年的一项研究结果表明,走神实际上可以改善你的情绪。)”
39.根据下文“If I simply put myself in a space that lets my mind move freely, I don’t get depressed. On the contrary, I’m happier because of it.(如果我只是把自己放在一个让我的思想自由活动的空间里,我就不会感到沮丧。 相反,我因此更快乐。)” 可知,作者提到了自己的经历,因此C项“我发现科学能够支持我自己的经历”符合上下文逻辑关系。故选C项。
40.根据上文“Researchers warn that mind—wandering when you need to be focused on a task could cause problems. So, let your mind wander when you’re doing tasks that don’t require focus.(研究人员警告说,当你需要专注于一项任务时,走神可能会导致问题。 所以,当你做不需要集中注意力的任务时,才可以走神。)”,可知,选项继续说说明走神的好处。G项说“这会让你感觉更好,想出有创意的想法”, 符合语境。故选G项。
