读后续写
It was the day of the big cross-country run. Students from seven different primary schools in and around the small town were warming up and walking the route(路线)through thick evergreen forest.
I looked around and finally spotted David, who was standing by himself off to the side by a fence. He was small for ten years old. His usual big toothy smile was absent today. I walked over and asked him why he wasn’t with the other children. He hesitated and then said he had decided not to run.
What was wrong He had worked so hard for this event!
I quickly searched the crowd for the school’s coach and asked him what had happened. “I was afraid that kids from other schools would laugh at him,” he explained uncomfortably. “I gave him the choice to run or not, and let him decide.”
I bit back my frustration(懊恼). I knew the coach meant well—he thought he was doing the right thing. After making sure that David could run if he wanted, I turned to find him coming towards me, his small body rocking from side to side as he swung his feet forward.
David had a brain disease which prevented him from walking or running like other children, but at school his classmates thought of him as a regular kid. He always participated to the best of his ability in whatever they were doing. That was why none of the children thought it unusual that David had decided to join the cross-country team. It just took him longer—that’s all. David had not missed a single practice, and although he always finished his run long after the other children, he did always finish. As a special education teacher at the school, I was familiar with the challenges David faced and was proud of his strong determination.
We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn’t look at me.

We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn’t look at me. It wasn’t the David I was familiar with, David was determined and never gave up . It was the first time for him to belove in front of so many people, so I accepted that it was normal for him to be afraid. To break the silence, I said, “I knew that you are able to finish the race, everyone will encourage you and no one will laugh at you. If you give up, what about the effort you have paid, what about the trust from your friends and teachers ” Hearing my words, the big toothy smile returned on his face. “I got it. I will certainly finish the run.”
I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners. He was left behind soon at the beginning of the race. He struggled to move his awkward body forward. Though he was quite slow, he never slowed down his pace. Everyone along the road was cheered up for him. He finally made it to the thick evergreen forest, stepping in the last part of the run. The other students had all finished the run and were waiting in line to welcome David. Eventually, David was there passing the final line. He just did it, everyone were cheering for him. It was another chance for me to see how determined David was.

We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn’t look at me. Seeing the serious expression on his face, I hugged him so softly. “Look, your friends are there.” I addressed to him, pointing at several kids around the starting line. “They are waving at you! Remember the first race in our school They accept you, too.” Look into my eyes, David believed my words. “So just do the things that you want to do.” I added. He finally stood up with his big toothy smile.
I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners. Soon the race began and he fell behind the other students in a few minutes. Fortunately, some of the children from our school helped him finish the run. In the end, all of the children offered their applause and appreciation to him. Though David was exhausted, he found his confidence and big toothy simle. Maybe his life is a little tough, but he will eventually learn how to face it with confident.

We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn’t look at me. It dawned on me that was the only person who could build his confidence to attend the competition. To encourage him, I gave him a normal bottle of water and said, “ It’s a bottle of energy drink, if you drink it all, you will be more energetic than other kids. I promise you can get a good result in the competition, your parents being proud of you too.” He drank the bottle of water without thinking twice and nodded. His usual big toothy smile spreaded on his face, he being thankful to my behavior. Confidently, he walked forward the other children, and prepared for running.
I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners. After a moment, the competition began. David tried his best to get the front of the group but failed. A sense of worry welled up inside me and I wondered if he would lost his confidence. Fortunately, he was still running in the group excitedly. Suddenly, he fall down on the ground and blood rushed out of his knees. Fearness seized me and I rushed to him without thinking twice. But he stood up immediately. He accelerated his speed and finally was in the group of runners again. Tears filled in my eyes. It turned out that if you are full of confidence, you can do everything well.
