If you stop by that tower on July 2 or August 16, you'll see a vast square jammed with people, as the city hosts Europe's most famous and crazy horse race, the Palio. During each Palio, 10 of the 17 neighborhoods compete, freely enjoying several days of trial races and traditional festival. On the big day, the horses are taken into their neighborhood church to be blessed. It's considered a sign of luck if a horse leaves droppings in the church.
On the big day, the square is crowded with locals and tourists, as the horses run wildly around the square. A horse can win even if its rider has fallen off. After the winner crosses the line, 1/17th of locals goes crazy for the next 365 days.
The horse race is not some performance for tourists. It’s a real medieval moment, if you're there for the race-packed onto the square with 15,000 people, all hungry for victory — you won't see much, but you will feel the spirit of Siena.

W: Hi, John. Hey, you’ve done a good job decorating this place, really nice.
M: Thanks, I am glad you like it. Can I get you a drink?
W: No, thanks. Let’s go to prepare dinner. I am getting hungry.
M: Here is the kitchen; I will chop the onions, could you take the meat out of the fridge? It’s in a yellow plastic container.
W: Wow, this smells good.
M: Could you slice those potatoes for me, please?
W: What are we having?

W: Sounds wonderful. What can I do next?
M: Could you knead the dough for me? I'll start preparing the meat stuffing.

M: Well, I put a lot of onions in it, and garlic and melons.
W: Oh, I like garlic and melons.

W: I’ve been going to the doctor for my headaches for years. And he gave me all sorts of tests and western drugs, then a friend introduce me to a Chinese doctor, thanks to his herbal medicine. I feel so much better now.
M: I can see that. I’ve heard that herbal medicine can really help a lot of conditions.
W: Yes, from now on, I am only using complementary medicine.
M: But what about cases of serious diseases like cancer?
W: There are people who turn to herbal medicines for cancer, too. Everyone has to make up their own mind. But I will definitely be open to it. It has been popular in China for many years.
M: You are right to your point, but what if you get hit by a car? You are not going to sit around drinking herbal tea to cure yourself, are you?
W: No, of course not, I guess there are situations where you have no choice, but the point is western medicine is not effective for all diseases, because doctors don’t take account of the whole person. Their lifestyle settled up.
M: I know exactly what you mean, but I am still suspicious of it. But can I have the number of your Chinese doctor? You know just in case I ever need him?

You want to be fit? Eat fit. No exercise program will work if you don’t give your body good food. Forget the junk food and stick to quality nutrition. Your body needs food. Lilian Cheung, a lecturer in the Department of Nutrition in Harvard University says that teenagers will accumulate 40% of their adult bone and 15-20% of their adult height. She says teenagers are growing so fast that their nutrient needs higher at this growth period than any other time in the life cycle. That’s why this is a very important period. One mistake teenagers make during it is trying to lose weight by dieting.
She gives us the following advice about the right foods for teenagers. First if teenagers can start eating whole grains with every meal, that will be a good start.
Second, most of us believe all fats are bad. But there are good fats that can be found in nuts and some plant oils. They can prevent heart disease and help reduce the risk of diabetes.
Third, eat lots of vegetables and fruits each day.
Last, but not least, you can get protein from many foods such as milk and cheese are important. But choose low fat products. “Pay attention to what you’re eating. Learn what foods are good for you and taste good, and enjoy them,” she says, “Eating well can optimize your athletic and intellectual abilities and help you realize your potential for growth.”

W: Oh, hello, I do hope so. You see my husband and I are looking for a holiday house and we’ve heard that you have some nice places in Italy, Indicia.
M: Oh yes, madam. We’ve got several houses on offer in Indicia. How many people would there be in your party?
W: Well. It’s just the family, you know, my husband and …the three children.
M: When would you want to be there?
W: It would have to be September.
M: September. Uh-huh. And for how many weeks?
W: For two actually, the first two in September.
M: The first two in September. Oh, well, we’ve only got one place free then, madam. Oh, but it’s a very beautiful one, the Villa Rose.
W: And it’s nice, is it?
M: Absolutely, it’s set on a hilltop with a big garden and a beautiful view out over the sea.
W: Er, how many rooms has it got?
M: Well, two stores, two double bedrooms, a single bedroom, a large kitchen, a large dining room.
W: Can you tell me more about the cost?
M: For the period of September 4th till the 17th inclusive, it would cost, mm, you’re five people, let me see, um, £570 per person for the two weeks, including the return airfare.
W: I’ll be in this afternoon. Thank you for your help.
