This is Bruce Ward for WNFD News.There was a serious fire at the Plaza Hotel this afternoon.It started at 3:10 in the kitchen on the first floor.
When reporters arrived at the hotel at 3:25,the first and second floors were on fire,and smoke was coming from the third and fourth floor windows. People were standing at the windows and yelling for help,and firefighters were using ladders to rescue them.
Some people had bad burns,and ambulances arrived to take them to the hospital. While firefighters were rescuing guests,one man jumped from a second floor window and broke his leg.
By 4:00 the fire was under control. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
