Music and Life
Do you like music Do you think music is one of the most important parts in your life Can you imagine what life will be like without music
As a matter of fact, music is everywhere and it is part of our life. There are many kinds of music, such as, classical music, symphony, light music, jazz, rock and roll, disco, folk music, and so on.
Music, in my mind, is multifunctional. Sometimes it can bring you to a fancy world. Music is the perfect way that you can express your different feelings and moods. Music can not only make you happy, excited, but also make you upset or calm. Above all, music is a universal language. There is no border between music. Though sometimes you don’t understand foreign language, it can’t still prevent you from feeling the music abroad.
I am a super music lover. Music becomes part of my life. It is one of my true friends.
Passage1阅读理解
As the saying goes, “Without music, life would be a mistake.” Music is very important in our lives and here are four of the greatest musicians in history.
Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 — 1827)
Born in Bonn, Germany, Beethoven never held an official position in Vienna. He supported himself by giving concerts, teaching piano, and the sale of his compositions. The last 30 years of Beethoven’s life were filled with a lot of hard times, the first of which was his deafness. Beethoven’s music greatly influenced the next generation of musicians.
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 — 1750)
Bach, “the father of modern music”, was born in Eisenach, Germany. His parents died when he was nine years old, and in 1695 he went to live with his brother Johann Chrcistoph, who was an organist (风琴手) in Ohrdruf. He stayed there until 1700. Seven years later, he moved back to Weimar, where he served as court (宫廷) organist for nine years. His music greatly influenced classical music.
Frederic Chopin (1810 — 1849)
Chopin was born in Zelazowa Wola, Poland. He showed a talent for the piano at a very young age. Chopin began composing when he was still a child, but some of his early works have been lost. He gave his first public concert in 1818. Chopin was considered as the leading musician of his time.
Franz Schubert (1797 — 1828)
Schubert was born and died in Vienna. Unlike most of his predecessors (前辈), Schubert was not a great performer. He never had much money but he was very productive. He wrote his first masterpiece when he was only sixteen. However, he died young, before his talents had even been known.

Passage2阅读理解
The arts, especially music, should be part of every school’s lessons at every grade level. Students would be much smarter if they had some musical experience. Music gives children an opportunity for self-ex pression, and that helps develop their self-confidence. A Songwriter And An Army Dad Share One Touching Story
Two years ago, Connie Harington, a Nashville songwriter, was driving in her car, listening to a story on the public radio program Here & Now. And she heard a father remembering his son—a firefighter who was killed in a rescue mission.
“He mentioned that he drove his son’s truck,” Harrington says. “And he went on to describe the truck.”
Jared Monti was 30 when he was killed in rescue action in 2006. In the radio broadcast, his father, Paul, said his reasons for driving the truck Jared left behind were simple, “What can I tell you It’s him. It’s got his DNA all over it. I love driving it because it reminds me of him, though I don’t need the truck to remind me of him. I think about him every hour of every day,”
Harrington was moved by what she heard and wrote down everything she could remember, all while fighting tears. A few days later, Harrington started turning those thoughts into a song, with two co-writers. Singer Lee Brice recorded the song, I Drive Your Truck and last month, it vaulted to No.1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.
As the song grew in popularity, Paul Monti, the man whose words on the radio inspired it in the first place, got a message. It was from a woman whose son was rescued in the fire by Jared. “She sent me a message and told me that she had heard this song and that I had to listen to it,” Paul says.
Here’s the thing: Songwriter Harrington couldn’t remember the name of the father whom she’d heard on the radio—but she wanted desperately to find him, to let him know he was the inspiration. “You feel like this song was such a gift,” Harrington says. “And it has contributed to healing, I think, in people. And we just wanted him to know that it was his words that touched us.”

Passage1
Li Hua: My favorite piece of music is Chunjianghuayueye, or A Moonlit Night on the Spring River. It’s a piece of traditional Chinese music played with Pipa, a traditional Chinese musical instrument looking a bit like a guitar. Every time I listen to the music, it feels as if a picture of a river is spreading before me. I can see the bright moon rising and shining, and the river water shining too. And this week, Paul Monti flew to Nashville to meet the songwriters and went to the celebration to mark the song’s success.
