In America, when the eighth graders leave the middle school, they are often worried about moving to the high school. It is a hard time for them, but it can be an exciting one as well. To make it easier, students need to get familiar with their school.
Even though they've done this already in the middle school, it's still important to find where their class-rooms are. Most schools take students to the high school for a visit at the end of their eighth grade year. And, most schools also have a freshman (新生) speech for parents and students before the first year begins. Sometimes the main office will give away a map of the school. This can help students and parents to find different places in the school.
One way to know your high school more and make new friends is to join a club or play a sport. Schools often offer chances to join different clubs and sports. Fall activities begin in August before the first day of school. If you are not interested in sports, there are clubs for any interest, such as drama, dance, chess, photography, community service, etc. These clubs allow students from different grades. By joining an activity, students can find new friendships, not to mention improving their chances in future college applications (申请). The school office will have a list of activities offered at the school and information on how to join them.
What's more, to have a great start to a high school year, students can write down some of their worries, and ask for help from teachers and school workers.
21.According to the text, most students feel when entering the high school.
A.excited B.nervous
C.lonely D.disappointed
22.When do many schools take students to visit their new high school
A.Before the eighth grade year starts.
B.Right after the high school year starts.
C.At the end of their eighth grade year.
D.At the beginning of the new term in the high school.
23.What can we conclude about the school clubs
A.There are fewer students from higher grades in the school clubs.
B.The school clubs in high school only welcome sports fans.
C.Summer activities begin before school starts.
D.The school office can help new students join school clubs.

“Farm to table” is the name of a movement that encourages people to eat locally grown food. The farm to table idea has become more popular in recent years. But there is also a movement that brings “table to farm”. Its purpose is to connect people to the land and to honor local farmers by creating a sort of restaurant without walls.
Its founder, Jim Denevan, got the idea for this kind of “culinary adventure (美食探险)”, as he called it, ten years ago. He recently prepared tables for more than a hundred people at Briars Farm in Virginia. He and his eight member team arrived the night before. Chefs (厨师) from a local restaurant prepared the dinner.
Jim Denevan's brother is a farmer and he himself is a chef. He thought that the idea of a meal served right on the farm made sense, though not everyone agreed.
“But I wanted to make the idea work, so I decided to cross the country,” said Denevan. “I went all the way across the United States and set the table on farms, ranches (大牧场) and beaches, and all the places where food came from.”
“This kind of event connects us with a lot of enthusiastic people, people that we can form relationships with,” said Matt Szechenyi, who operates Briars Farm.
The tour of the farm ends at the dinner table. The meats in the meal come from Matt Szechenyi's farm. The vegetables come from nearby farms. Guests and local farmers sit together.
Annoica Ingram came with a friend. “The food is wonderful. I appreciate their hard work. I see everything they have to do to take care of the animals and make sure they are well cared for. Without them, I think, we'll have big problems,” she said.
24.What is the main purpose of the movement “table to farm”?
A.To provide people with healthy food.
B.To help farmers earn more money.
C.To honor farmers for their hard work.
D.To encourage people to work less and practice more.
25.Members of the movement “table to farm” will probably not ________.
A.make new friends
B.walk around the farms
C.communicate with farmers
D.build restaurants for farmers
26.Annoica's attitude towards farmers' work is ___________.
A.worried B.grateful
C.doubtful D.supportive
27.What kind of writing is the passage likely to be
A.A travel guide. B.A news report.
C.A diary. D.Popular science.

I have dreamt of taking a trip to Hawaii since I graduated, but the best thing always needs waiting. I took a trip with my friends to Haleakala National Park, which lies in Hawaii.
When we arrived at Haleakala National Park, we were advised to watch the early morning sunrise. I was lost in the sightseeing (观光) that afternoon, so I could hardly wait to see the sunrise. The next morning, we all got out of bed very early and got to the seaside at 3 o'clock. In the first half an hour, we imagined how wonderful it would be when the first light came out through the thick clouds and how soft it would be when the light touched our skin, so we waited and waited. However, another half an hour later, I gradually lost my patience since there was nothing but the chilly darkness, and I felt that I was frozen to death. But my friends were still extremely cheerful.
Nearly another one hour later, “Amazing!” Judy burst out and we all shouted to welcome the light, which was really unbelievable. Until today, I dare say that it is the most impressive sunrise in my life. However, waiting in the morning darkness is also one memory I can't forget forever.

A comfort zone, particularly for students in high school, serves as a non risk, no failure and non rejection zone. It reflects that most teenagers are not willing to extend themselves or take risks in their life and they even want to escape from their parents.
My first experience of being thrown out of my comfort zone was in my high school. Many of my friends in the first year had started to experiment, regardless of the results, with alcohol, drugs or other 41 things. For them, it was 42 to care more about alcohol, parties or girlfriends/boyfriends rather than their 43 , study or other friends. That was not the case with me. None of my friends had the determination to 44 their risky behavior, including pressure in the new group and the new comfort zone of going along with new friends. 45 , they simply replaced one comfort zone with another riskier one with potentially severe results. Those had little 46 for me.
I considered myself to be smarter than my old friends and was trying to develop 47 and diverse interests. I threw myself into my 48 and spent a long time in the library. Could they support themselves in the future Because of our 51 opinion, interests and values, the only 52 of our friendship, we chose to end it. I couldn't 53 their group just to be accepted.
54 I went through a high school student's worst experience—having no peer (同龄人) group.

The Voice of Rigo
Rigo had a_loud_voice. People were always telling Rigo to be quiet. His mother would tell him to use his quiet voice inside the_house because the baby was asleep. His_father would ask him to speak quietly in the car so that he could concentrate on his driving. His teacher would tell him to talk quietly so he would not bother others who were studying.
Not only did he have a loud voice, but Rigo liked to talk a lot. Whenever he had time, he would talk with his classmates, sharing everything he considered fun. He liked to yell and shout.Sometimes he just yelled, “Hey!” for no reason. He liked the sound of his very loud voice for he thought it had more penetrating (穿透的) power than that of an_actor. But not everyone felt the same way.
When Rigo shouted goodbye as he left for school, his mother shook her head, “Rigo! Be quiet!” When his father drove him to school, Rigo said, “Hey! There's Chris!” He pointed at his friend, who was walking to school. His father shook his head. “Rigo, use a quiet voice in the car.” At school, his teacher talked to him three times about using his quiet voice. His classmates shook their heads, throwing an upset look at him when he talked aloud.
Later, Rigo had to sit by himself for a while. His teacher wanted him to practice being quiet. Rigo had to sit quietly for five minutes. It felt like five hours or five days. When the five minutes was up, Rigo went to his desk and sat quietly. It was not easy.
After school, Rigo was waiting for his father when he saw Chris again. “Hey!” he yelled. “Chris! Hey!” The_headmaster was walking by. Rigo was sure he was going to get in trouble for his loud voice. He looked quickly at the ground. Maybe the headmaster would keep walking.

M:Good morning, this is Jesse Williams with your Tuesday weather report. We had a hot and sunny day yesterday. The temperature was 36 ℃. It is expected that today's temperature could climb to as high as 38 ℃ by the late afternoon. Right now, only an hour after sunrise, the temperature in our city is already 29 ℃. Unfortunately, there is also no rain for the next five days. This is bad news for the thirsty forest in our city. Wednesday is forecast to be hotter, reaching 40 degrees with a surprising 28 ℃ overnight. It is the hottest August day since 30 ℃ in 2015. The good news is that it will be windy tonight. So it seems that setting up a tent in the backyard may be the only way to catch some sleep tonight if you don't have an air conditioner. When you go out, please wear your hat and sunglasses. That's all for today's weather report. The traffic report in the morning is as follows. Thank you for listening.
