八、阅读理解

Are you feeling lonely and looking for a hand to hold If you simply have no one to hold hands with and it’s impossible for you to look for one at the moment, then these Japanese scientists have what you’re looking for: a hand that you can hold whenever you wish, if you don’t mind a robotic one that is!
Gifu University recently built a robot hand which they named “Osampo Kanojo”, which means “My Girlfriend in Walk” according to the engineers. The hand is designed to feel like a real human hand-and even smell like one.
The designers want to give some comfort and companionship to lonely people, especially now that COVID-19 has made face-to-face human communication impossible. The hand can hold one’s arm, so a person can let go of it without the robot dropping to the ground.
It can also squeeze someone’s hand back and even get wet skin. If that’s not enough, the hand has a small speaker that will produce the sound of footsteps as you walk and also let out the smell of a woman’s shampoo.
“For some people, finding a girlfriend is very difficult,” the researcher said. So they created this robot hand so that lonely men can “experience holding their girlfriends’ hands more easily” than by actually dating.
This is clearly made for men, but the engineers are planning to introduce a male version of this hand. The features would be similar except for the smell. Pretty soon women are likely to hold a hand that smells of cologne or motor oil.
1. What does the hand feel like
A. A human hand. B. A robotic hand. C. A stone hand. D. A wood hand.
2. Which idea leads the scientists to invent such a robot
A. Giving some comfort to lonely people. B. Helping lonely people with boring work.
C. Helping disabled people with daily work. D. Taking care of old people without children.
3. What can’t the robot hand do
A. Hold one’s arm. B. Cook for their owners.
C. Give out the smell of a woman’s shampoo. D. Produce the sound of footsteps.
4. What is the difference between the female and male version of the robot hand
A. The smell. B. The sound. C. The skin. D. The price.
5. What can we learn according to the text
A. The female version of the robot hand smells like cologne(科隆香水).
B. It is difficult for most people to find a boyfriend or girlfriend.
C. The robot hand was designed to stop face-to-face communication.
D. The robot hand was designed by some Japanese scientists.
B 阅读还原
Robots may seem smart, but they cannot even pick up a chess piece. “Robots are klutzes (笨手笨脚的人),” said the US AI engineer Ken Goldberg.
Robot scientists say that one-year-old human babies have better movement skills than robots do. ____1_____
Pick things up.
Picking things up is not easy. If we drop our pencil on the floor, our brains work hard. First, we must find the pencil and look at the distance. _____2_____ A robot cannot always move its “hand” to the right place. Calculating (计算) the distance is not easy. Then, when we touch the pencil, it might roll (滚动) a little bit. Robots cannot easily understand this, either. So, if you drop a pencil on the floor, a robot will probably roll it around the room.
Get around in our world.
If someone drops you in a building you’ve never been to, you might feel a bit lost. But you can look around, find a door and get out quickly. You will not get stuck in a corner. _____3_____ This is because it’s hard for them to understand spaces, especially large, blank things such as walls or ceilings. Scientists need to train them with lots of data to learn this.
_____4_____
“Common sense” is what we don’t need to think or talk about. Because of common sense, we do not look for doors on the ceiling. We pick up a coffee cup by its handle (把手). We feel whether it has coffee inside, and whether it is hot.
A robot It may turn the cup upside down. It may hold the hot part of the cup, damaging itself. _____5_____ But even huge databases don’t help much. There are just too many rules—and too many exceptions. Maybe they just need more time to learn.
A. Scientists have tried teaching robots common-sense rules.
B. Then we move our hands to it.
C. Let’s take a look at some tasks that are easy for kids but difficult for robots.
D. But a robot will look everywhere for a door, even on ceilings and floors.
E. Understand the world made by people.

八、阅读理解
A
Are you feeling lonely and looking for a hand to hold If you simply have no one to hold hands with and it’s impossible for you to look for one at the moment, then these Japanese scientists have what you’re looking for: a hand that you can hold whenever you wish, if you don’t mind a robotic one that is!

【答案】1. C 2. B 3. D 4. E 5. A
