一、教学目标:
知识与技能:了解英语在世界上的发展状况,认识各种各样带有民族、地域特色的英语;对英国英语和美国英语的差异有所了解,尤其是一些常用词汇,比如falt和apartment, lift 和elevator, rubber 和eraser等; 掌握本单元中出现的词汇、短语的用法; 学会语言交际困难的表达法,如pardon, I beg your pardon?; 掌握祈使句及其间接引语的表达法。
过程与方法:本单元通过对“世界英语”这一话题的探讨,以加强学生对英语语言的了解,对当代语言特别是英语的发展趋势的了解。
情感态度与价值观:了解英国英语和美国英语的区别,两种英语不存在那种好与不好的问题。
二、教材分析(Text analysis)
(一)教学重点(Teaching important points)
1、学会使用outline列提纲的形式来分析整篇文章,找出每段的段落大意及细节。
2、能运用所给的提纲对文章进行复述。
(二)教学难点(Teaching difficult points)
1、引导学生复述课文。2、把任务型教学有机融入情景教学中。
三、学生分析(Teaching methods)
? 高一学生处于高中英语学习兴趣培养和学习习惯形成阶段。他们希望在学习过程中享受到乐趣,不希望老师死板地讲解字词及语法。希望老师能够激发他们的好奇心和创造力,并与他们日常生活紧密相连的学习,语境是他们希望教师在课堂上能呈现的东西。一旦教师走进他们的生活,他们就愿意跟着教师走,掌握文化知识,了解学习策略,形成良好的人生观和价值观。

Teaching procedures:
Step 1: Lead in
Ask students several questions in the form of brain storming.
Do you know the differences between British English and American English?
Do you know the countries where people speak English?
Which country speak English as their native language?
4. Which country speak English as their second foreign language?
设计意图:讨论说英语的国家,回顾上节课的内容,引起话题现代英语之路。
Step 2: Fast reading
Read quickly to get the main idea of the text.
Let the students find out key sentence of each paragraph or ask them to summarize the main point for each paragraph in their own words.
Paragraph 1: The spread of the English language in the world
Paragraph 2: Native speaker can understand each other but they may not be able to understand everything.
Paragraph 3: All languages change when cultures communicate with one another.
Paragraph 4: English is spoken as a foreign language or second language in Africa and Asia.
设计意图:通过快速阅读找出段意,训练学生的速读能力。
Step3:Carefule reading
Read the text quickly and tell the details about each paragraph:
1.16th century, …5 to 7 million … in England.
2. 17th century, people…voyages…conquer …in many other countries.
3. AD450~1150, …based more on German.
4.AD80~1150, …less like German, …Dinish…French, …enrich vocabulary.
5. 1600’s, Shakespeare… wider vocabulary.
6. 1620, British settlers→America.
7.18th century, British settlers→Australia.
8. …2 changes in spelling.
9. The latter …a separate identity…
10.India…a large number of speakers…for government and education.
11. …Singapore and Malaysia…in South Africa.
12.China … increasing rapidly.
设计意图:精读课文,按照时间顺序排列课文中英语发展的顺序,训练学生的阅读能力。
Step4.Post Reading
Do exercises about the text T/F Exercises:

设计意图:让学生根据课文中的内容来判断正误,进一步理解课文。
Step5.Summary:
At last, give Ss some information about English-speaking country.
English is used as:
First language: UK ,USA ,Canada ,Australia, South Africa,Ireland,
New Zealand and so on.
Second language: India, Pakistan, Nigeria the Philippines, HK and so on .
Foreign language: China and so on .
设计意图:扩充学生知识量,扩展知识面,了解世界上其它以英语为母语的国家。
Step5 : Homework
1. Review what we have learned today.
2. Retell the passage with outline you’ve written.
