Language Notes
1.A hobby is not only fun but also useful.
爱好不仅有趣而且有用。
not only...but also... 表示“不仅……而且”“既……又”，
用于连接两个性质相同的词或短语。其中的also有时可以省略。
Not only men but also women were chosen.
不仅仅是男的，女的也有被选中的。
We were not only hungry, but also tired.
我们不但饿了，而且也累了。
注意：not only … but also 连接两个主语时，谓语动词要和与其
最近的主语保持人称和数的一致。
Not only the students but also their teacher is enjoying
the film.
不仅学生们在欣赏这部影片，他们的老师也在欣赏这部影片。

（1）confidence是名词，可以作主语宾语等。
I am full of confidence. 我充满自信。
固定短语have confidence of/ in sth. 或 have
confidence to do sth.意为“对某事/ 做某事有信心”。
They have the confidence of the governments to
which they are accredited.
他们对其所代表的政府有信心.
(2) confident 是形容词，作定语、表语、补语等。
He is always confident. 他总是很有自信。
固定短语 be confident of sth.确信…也可以接that
从句来表示，即be confident that…

他脸上的表情显示他对成功具有信心.

他有信心通过考试。
3.People usually take up their first hobby when they are kids,
But hobbies are fun for all ages. 通常人们在他们还是小孩子的
时候就开始从事最初的爱好了，但是对所有年龄的人来说爱好都是
有趣的。
take up意为“开始从事”。

【拓展】 take up还可意为“占用；接受”。
