When I was a kid, my siblings(兄弟姐妹) and I used to have ice cream for dessert. Every day, we would choose which ice cream flavor to have. Then we would happily wolf down our treat(款待) as fast as we could.
Once, though, when I was probably about 10 or 11, our grandpa came to visit. Grandpa always had a unique view on things. On this particular occasion, my sister and I were making a bet as to who could finish our ice cream first. With a smile, Grandpa said, "Why would you want to finish first If you eat slowly, it will last longer. You should have a competition to see who can finish last." Even now, I always try to taste my ice cream, but of course this is about more than just dessert(甜点).
Too often, kids want to struggle for more, whether it's more ice cream, more toys, or more friends. This habit continues to exist in our adult years, and we end up constantly struggling for more. We never develop the skill of appreciating what we have. If we learn to recognize this pattern and change it, we can raise our kids a little differently, giving them the tool of tasting their widely known dessert, which could lead to a happier life for them.
What my grandpa taught me that day was really that if you take the opportunity to enjoy what's in front of you, the pleasure will last longer and be more rewarding than if you rush through life always trying to get the next treat. It's a lesson that, I think, has made my adult life happier, as well. These days, when I want something, I wait as long as I can before I allow myself to have it. Then, when I finally get it, I make sure to treasure it as long as possible, because I know that, no matter what it is, it will be gone all too soon.
24. What did the author's grandfather advise her sister and her to do
A. Eat ice cream as slowly as possible
B. Stop eating ice cream
C. Stop the competition between them
D. Learn something from their way of eating
25. Which of the following best describes the author's grandfather
A. Wise. B. Humorous. C. Strict. D. Careful.
26. What advice does the author give us in the passage
A. Keep longing for more.
B. Value what you have.
C. Have a balanced diet.
D. Save for the future.
27. What is the main idea of the last paragraph
A. The author longs for the days when they ate ice cream.
B. The author doesn't like ice cream as much as before.
C. The author benefits a lot from her grandfather's advice.
D. The author just starts to understand her grandfather.

A typical child plays many roles, such as friend, neighbor, son or daughter. Simply reminding children of that fact can lead to better problem-solving and more flexible(灵活的) thinking. According to new research from Duke University.
“This is some of the first research on reminding kids about their many roles,” said 1ead author Sarah Gaither, a professor at Duke. “Such reminders improve their problem-solving skills and how flexibly they see their social worlds.”
In a series of experiments, Gaither and her colleagues looked at 196 children, ages 6 and 7. In an experiment, one group of children was reminded that they had various identities, such as son, daughter, reader or helper. A second group of children was reminded of other children’s many roles, not their own.
All the children then needed to handle a few tasks. The first group of children showed stronger problem-solving and creative thinking skills. For example, when shown pictures of a bear staring at honey-filled beehive(蜂窝)high up in a tree, these children had more creative ideas for how the bear might get the honey, such as turning over a bowl as a seat.
The second group of children also showed more flexible thinking about social groupings. When asked to group different photos of faces, they suggested many ways to do so. For example, they told smiling faces from unsmiling ones, and old from young faces. The other children grouped people's faces by race and gender(性别).
The study suggests ways to promote flexible thinking for the young, which could be especially valuable for teachers," said Christopher Marlowe, a schoolmaster. "We have this tendency in our society to only think about ourselves in connection with one important group at a time," Gaither said. "When kids think that they have various identities, they show greater abilities."
32. Who is Sarah Gaither
A. A reader. B. A professor.
C. A reporter. D. A schoolmaster.
33. What does the underlined word “identities” mean in the third paragraph
A. hobbies B. ideas C. thoughts D. roles
34. Why are photos of a bear talked about in Paragraph 4
A. To remind children of childhood.
B. To introduce a topic.
C. To show the children were creative to solve problems.
D. To inform children of wildlife protection.
35. What’s the attitude of Christopher to the children
A. Positive B. Negative C. Unclear D. Doubtful

Dear Sir or Madam,
Knowing from the Internet that an exhibition of traditional Chinese clothing is going to be held in a local museum and some volunteers are needed, I’m writing to be one of them.
The reasons why I think I am qualified for the job are as follows. To begin with, I am not only a Chinese but also interested in clothing design and I have a good command of traditional Chinese clothing. In addition, I am a fluent English speaker, which is beneficial to communicate with others. Last but not least, it is a great honor for me to spread our culture and improve the culture exchange between our two countries.
I’d appreciate it if you could take my application into consideration. Look forward to your early reply.
参考答案二、
In order to enrich our school life and broaden our horizons, our school organized an activity to visit Xinxing Farm today.
All of the teachers and students went to the farm by bus. On arrival, sea of vegetables and fruits came into our sight, including tomatoes, strawberries and cucumbers and so on. With curiosity, we looked at the plants carefully and asked the owner a variety of questions. Several moments later, we were divided into small groups to experience the work on the farm.
We learned a lot from this activity. Not only did us get closer to the nature but also we knew more about agriculture and learnt to cherish the labor of the farmers.
