Key point: Help students get the details of the passage.
Difficult point: Guide students to use the new knowledge in their daily life.
4.Major Steps:
Step 1 Lead-in
After greeting students, the teacher will show the picture of hunger and ask one question:
What you can see in the photo and how you think each photo relates to world hunger.
then invited some volunteers to share their answers. After that, the teacher will give corresponding comments on students' answers and show the topic of this lesson.
Step 2 Pre-listening (5 mins)
(1)With the help of PPT, the teacher will guide students to understand the meaning and usage of new words and sentences, including in turn、alternative、focus on…
(2)Prediction
Before listening, the teacher will organize students to make a prediction. Some hints will be provide to help them:
Hint 1:Words and sentence just refered.
Hint 2:Title of this metrial- Working the Land
Hint 3:Some pictures in which students can see.
Step 3 While-listening(20 mins)
(1)Extensive listening
a)Skimming
Students will listen to the passage first time to check their prediction and conclude the main idea of the passage.
(2)Intensive listening
Students should listen to the passage for the second time and do the following tasks:
Match the supporting evidence with the facts.
1. According to our latest figures,..... A. wars can heavily affect food
production and transportation.
2. There is strong evidence to suggest that.... B. (world hunger) stands at around 11% of the world’s population.
3. Our research indicates that .... C. many people just can't afford to eat well
Step 4 Post-reading (11mins)
Group discussion:
Talk about world hunger and possible solutions.
1.What are the possible causes of world hunger that you can think of
2.What can people and countries do to help alleviate these causes
Several minutes will be given. When time's up, several students will be invited to share their answers. Then the teacher will comment on student's perfercece.
Step 5 Summary and homework (5 mins)
1. Summary
Students should act as an assistant to conclude what they have learned in this class, and then the teacher will make a summary together with students.
2. Homework
(1)Retell the passage after the class.
(2)Search the internet for more information about world hunger and share with others next class.
