Divided into two groups, the students were busy in a kitchen at the High Point Community Center in Seattle US. Instructor (指导员) Asia Faircloth taught one group how to cook vermicelli (意式细面) bowls with chicken. The other group joined instructor Jacob Alhadeff to practice new chopping skills with chef knives.
The center’s four-week cooking course was centered on cooking and food justice. To teach more people about the importance of having nutritious food, the city recruited (招募) students from low-income families through social media. Each student received 100 dollars (700 yuan) at the end of the course.
“Low-income people of color are more likely to feel the effects of food injustice (不公),” Alhadeff said. “So providing cooking ininstruction and putting money back in the pockets of our community members seemed like a no-brainer (容易做的决定):”
Alhadeff and Faircloth started the course not only to teach kids how to cook, but also to encourage them to think more deeply about the economics behind food. They were shown how to connect the dots between persona choices and the economic cost of obesity (肥胖), climate change and global food supplies.
Tahir Adams and Najah Goodrich, two juniors at Seattle Lutheran High School, joined the classes. They talked about how farmers have a hard time putting food on their own kitchen tables while growing fresh produce for the rest of he country. They were proud of the new skills and recipes (菜谱) they learned.

Wind power is a very clean source of energy. This is how wind power works. Wind makes windmills spin (旋转). When the windmills spin, they make electricity. Then we can use the electricity. A lot of people think that wind power is new, but that’s not true. For thousands of years, people have used wind to sail boats and move water. We still do those things today, but these days we mostly use wind power to make electricity.
Wind power is a very popular source of energy. Most people think that we should use it more and more. First of all, it’s clean. Windmills don’t pollute the environment at all. Second, we can use wind power forever. After all, we will always have wind. Also, wind power is cheap, and it’s getting even cheaper.
A lot of people don’t understand wind power very well. They believe that there are problems with wind power, but many of those problems are not real. For example, some people say that windmills are dangerous for birds. They used to be true, but it isn’t true anymore. Old windmills killed birds because they spun very fast. New windmills spin slowly, and they aren’t dangerous for birds.
However, there are real problems with windmills. One problem is that many people think windmills are very ugly. This is a problem for people, because windmills are often in very pretty areas. Also, wind doesn’t blow all the time, so we can’t use wind power all the time. Finally, windmills are noisy.
Wind power is becoming more and more common. Right now, more than 80 countries use wind power. About 2.5 percent of the world’s power comes from the wind. For some countries, that number is a lot higher. Wind power gives Denmark more than 25 percent of its electricity.

Have you ever been talking to somebody at the party Do you focus entirely on the person you are speaking with or does your attention keep jumping around the room to all the other people there Generally, if the person is someone you really want to talk to, you will focus on them. Most other people will only get about half of your attention.
You may think that this is OK because if you don’t really want to talk to them then what does it matter if you don’t give them your full attention Consider two things. First you may just not realize the importance of that conversation. If you are at a networking meeting and you hope to meet the CEO of Company X but you end up talking to someone who has a low-level job at a different company, then you may let your attention wander as you speak to him. But maybe you don’t realize that this person has already met the CEO and could introduce you. Do you think he will do that if he feels you don’t really care about speaking to him This doesn’t mean you need to spend the entire time talking to him. Five or ten minutes of real attentive conversation can be worth 30 minutes to an hour of partial attention interaction.
Second whether you want to speak to someone changes based on the situation. You love your spouse(配偶) but if he or she tries to talk to you while you are watching something you like on TV, where is your attention going Make your own decision, but if you want them to feel valued, give them your 100% attention. The nice thing is that in many cases you can give them your attention for a few minutes and then return to what you were doing. You miss very little they feel valued and all is good.

Nowadays, many people are under great pressure because of the heated competition from the society. As we know, every coin has two sides. Pressure can be the power that pushes us to move on but sometimes it can also be harmful if we just let ourselves suffer from it too much. It’s important to find some ways to release the pressure.

You will feel less stressful when you complete the task ahead of the deadline.
Regular exercise is important. We will feel tired and nervous as our body have to stay in one condition for a long time while we are working. Doing exercise can cause the hormone that makes us feel happy, so try to keep doing exercise for at least half an hour every day.
Don’t spend too much time on digital products. Digital products are really convenient but it seems that we rely on them too much. From the result of a survey in Britain, 29% of the British will check their cellphones before sleeping and 18% of the British will use their cellphones first when they wake up. If they don’t get their phones when they need, they will feel nervous. It is obvious that digital products have already caused some problems for people like reducing the ability of self-management and the chance of communicating with others.
