Coffee came much later than tea, just over 1,000 years ago. Coffee is made from beans. Something in the coffee beans makes a person feel active. Most people do not drink coffee to relax. Instead, they drink coffee to get going. Many people drink coffee in the morning to help them wake up. Although Jerry had achieved great success, he didn't feel fulfilled. He asked himself, “Is it enough to climb the highest mountains Am I doing something helpful How can I turn my adventures into something that can help the world ”

But scientists can't get there themselves as such places are hard to reach - only the bravest adventurers can make it. Jerry thought he could do something to help. He then came up with an idea. He set up a team of top adventurers to collect samples for scientists. By studying the samples, scientists could know more about the earth and find ways to protect it.
Recently Jerry and his adventurer friends have discovered a special plant life on Mount Qomolangma. The samples they brought back have helped scientists learn how plants live in extreme (极端的) conditions.

For most England children, Easter means chocolate eggs. Shops are full of chicks, rabbits and flowers. They sell a lot of chocolate eggs. Ninety million chocolate eggs are sold in the UK each year, and each child gets on average(平均) eight chocolate eggs that day. Most doctors advise people to eat Easter eggs in moderation(适度).

School is starting soon. Last year I bullied(欺负) a boy. (I'm a girl.) I attacked him even though he's stronger because I knew he wouldn't hit a girl. I want to apologize but I don't know how. I feel bad for doing this. He doesn't trust me. How should I show him I have changed ---Lily
Firstly, be proud of yourself for changing. It's not easy to admit (承认) that you bullied someone or to stop once you start. Offering an apology to someone you bullied is a great first step toward starting over. If you can, tell him, "I want to apologize for my actions last year." Speaking from the heart can help. Tell him, "I feel really bad for what I did. It's been on my mind all summer." People who are bullied often have difficulty trusting others, especially the people who bullied them in the past. So don't expect the other person to accept your apology. Secondly, be patient. It will take time. You've probably heard that "actions speak louder than words". So afier offering words of an apology, you then need to show him that you've really changed: be kind and helpful to him. Thirdly, you can remember: first, what you're doing takes courage and you can be proud of the fact that you are taking real steps to change. Second, whatever happens, you're building some good skills and learning more about yourself and the kind of person you want to be.

Scientists are watching and reporting any possible danger all the time. They are working on helpful ways to do with space junk.
Although space is really dangerous, it interests everyone on Earth. In the near future, it may become usual for people to spend a few days in a space hotel. Passage 13
“Why are they the top students in my class ” “Do they have any secrets ” You may wonder. The children at the top of the class succeed by knowing a few basic skills that others can easily learn. According to the education experts and students themselves, here are the secrets of top students.
Study is the first thing. Once the books are open or the computer is on, phone calls are unanswered, TV shows unwatched, snacks unnoticed. Study is business; Business comes before everything.
Study anywhere or everywhere. Study times are different for different children. Some work late at night when the house is quiet. Others wake early. Still others study as soon as they come home from school. However, all agree that consistency (持之以恒) is needed.
Get organized. Don’t waste time looking for a pencil or missing paper. Keep everything right where one can put one’s hands on it. Even for a student who doesn’t keep his own study area organized, a bag or a drawer is needed to put things in to save time.
Learn how to read. The secret of good reading is to be an active reader—one who continually asks questions that lead to a full understanding of the writer’s message.
Use your time best. Even the best students put off their work sometimes. But when that happens, they face it. “If you want to be at the top, make sure to finish the work on time.” says Christi Anderson, a top student at Lyman High School.
Take good notes and use them. Reading the text is important, but the teacher is going to test you on what he or she emphasized (强调). That’s what you find in your notes.
Another kind of important “secret” of the top students is not so secret at all. For almost all of them, their parents’ help is important.

At 9 a. m. , he drives to primary schools and middle schools in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, to teach students about Shaanxi kuaiban. It is a traditional Chinese form of storytelling to the rhythm(节奏) of bamboo clappers(响板), which the art form is named after. Sometimes, he helps students prepare for competitions. Usually, his classes run until about 6. p.m. , and then he returns home to prepare classes for the next day.
On June 10, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced 325 national intangible cultural heritage(非物质文化遗产) items in Beijing, increasing the list to 1, 557 items. Kuaiban is popular in northern China, including Beijing and Tianjin. According to Yang, Shaanxi kuaiban was influenced by the art of different areas. The art form can be played by a group of players or only one. Passage 16
Did you know that vocabulary (词汇) is more important than grammar If you have good vocabulary, you can communicate successfully, even if the grammar is not completely perfect.
However, one common problem is learning new words and then forgetting them. So when you want to use a new word in a conversation, you can’t remember it at that moment. Does this often happen to you The reason for this difficulty is that most students try to learn vocabulary by studying lists and dictionaries and remembering the words. But it may not work if you don't have a very good memory.
The best way to learn vocabulary and remember the words successfully, is to learn new words and use them at once. You can do this with a very simple exercise. Every time you learn a new word, for example, from an English lesson or an article, write it down in your vocabulary notebook. Writing is more active than just reading a definition (释义). You should write the word, the definition in English or translation , one example sentence from the article or dictionary and one example sentence that you create.
Imagine you just learn the word “ generous' write in your vocabulary notebook : generous ( adjective), definition—giving or willing to give freely. Example one, from the article: Thanks for
paying for my dinner, you’re very generous. Example two, my example: My brother is generous because he volunteers at the animal shelter on weekends. It' s best if your example sentences are true to your life ,because this creates a personal connection with the new word. The next day, read your vocabulary notebook again and try to add one more example sentence using the new word. It's helpful for you to remember it. These two simple steps—writing the word and using it at once—help you remember and use new words.
Do you have a vocabulary notebook If not, start now.
