According to a recent survey on the Double Reduction Policy (“双减”政策) (Chart 1), kids in Wellington Primary School spend much time doing their homework. Therefore, both kids and parents disagree with too much homework.
Is it good for kids to do homework Of course. A great number of researches do show that kids can remember what they have learned in class better by finishing their homework on time and homework itself plays an important role in developing their learning skills such as independent thinking and creativity.
But for parents in Wellington Primary School the result is not the same. After a day of hard work, most of them feel like they’re attending school a second time when they sit down with their children each night to help with their homework. And a recent survey (Chart 2) found that some parents feel like they don’t spend enough time with their children, because they spend too much time doing the housework or doing their own work. The school surveyed(调查) 1,200 parents and the result shows that 50 percent of parents who have enough time with their kids have arguments with their kids often when they have different answers to the same question.
Now several educators strongly advise parents to stop helping. They say it will give their kids more independence and give parents their free time back. At the same time, the number of homework-connected arguments will be fewer at home. Kate Smith, an educator, says, “Parents don’t have to know everything. Children need to put their hands up for help in school. Moreover, kids can use their resources when they do homework at home—online teachers or even their neighborhood classmates.”

四、阅读型理解
For Chinese students, the new term might be a little different from those in the past. In July, China introduced the “double reduction” policy (双减政策). It hopes to reduce students’ learning burden (负担) by reducing homework and after-school classes. Two months has passed since the new term began. How do students feel about this new policy
“Our homework is clearly (A) than before,” said 14-year-old Shen Yuzhe from Beijing.
“We are not encouraged to buy workbooks anymore. The exercises are mainly from the textbook.”
According to Shen, teachers now teach much slower. Students have enough time to learn new knowledge. “Our teachers are also giving us more chances to do experiments and learn from real life,” said Shen. “For example, we went to research insects in a field. This is a much better way to learn things than just (B) hitting the books.”
For 13-year-old Zhang Hangming from Tianjin, the best thing about “double reduction” is the increased time in after-school activities. “We can now spend more time taking part in clubs and activities, such as dancing, volleyball and drama. I have joined a group where I can learn all kinds of skills,” said Zhang. Both Shen and Zhang find there are fewer exams now. But they think (C) it is not necessarily a good thing. “Exams push me to study harder. (D) Each exam shows my progress as well as my weak points.” Zhang said. Shen also pointed out that when burden is lightened, self-discipline (自律) becomes the key. “Some students now spend more time having fun when they finish their homework early. But if you use all the free time to relax, you might fall behind others,” he said.

36.将文中(D)处划线句子Each exam shows my progress as well as my weak points.译成汉语。
