Teaching procedures
Step 1. Daily proverb
Early to bed early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and rise.
Step 2. Lead in
Show some pictures to the students and ask the following questions:
A. Are they in good health
B. Why are they so heavy
Help them to lead in to the topics ”junk food and healthy food”.
Then get the students to find out junk food and healthy food from the words in the box in groups.
Step 3. Survey (groupwork)
Make a survey in groups about their eating habits by asking “How often do you eat... ” Then report their survey results.
Step 4. Free talk ( A role play)
Get one student to act as an interviewer from CCTV , the others act as the guests Interview the guests about their habits.
Step 5. Presentation (1a)
Get the students to look at the six pictures and teach the new words in 1a by asking “What’s this in Picture A / What’re these in Picture E ” Read the new words twice. Then ask the students to match the pictures with the correct words individually. Later check the answers together.
Then say something about them. For example: “Look at Picture C. There are vegetables on the plate. Most people eat vegetable every day.”
Ask the students to do the same thing for the other five pictures.
Step 6. Pairwork (1b)
Ask two students to read the dialogue in 1b to the class. Then get the whole class to make their own conversations about the words in Activity 1a. Later ask some pairs to present their conversations to the class.
Step 7. Listening (1d)
Now you’ll be a reporter interview two people, Tina and Bill. First read the questions in the charts, play the tape twice each step for the students to listen and check the answers.
Step 8. Pairwork (1e)
Role play. Get the students to play the roles of the interviewer, Tina and Bill. Ask and answer the questions in the survey. Then change the roles.
Review the conversations by having different pairs of students ask and answer the questions in class.
Step 9. Take the health quiz.
Step 10. Reading
Read the three paragraphs to tell who has a healthy lifestyle.
