By the end of this lesson, students will be better to read for gist, for specific information and for detail in the context of Mr. Cool’s Clothes Store.
Subsidiary aim:
By the end of this lesson, students will be better to use the new vocabulary accurately in both spoken and written form, to write a short advertisement about their own shop.
Teaching material and learning condition
The analysis of teaching material
The teaching material is an advertisement from Unit 7 How much are these socks The topic of this unit is to ask and answer the price of things. This advertisement mainly introduces the price of clothes in a shop. There are some new phases in the advertisement.
The analysis of learning condition
There are 43 students in this Grade 7 class. They are 13 or 14 years old. 23 students’ first language is Chinese and the others’ first language is Uyghur. They have been learning English for 3 years. Most students are interested in English and cooperate well during lessons. Most like playing games and having competitions but some of them find it difficult to concentrate on listening and reading tasks.
Language focuses and anticipated difficulties
Language focuses
This is a reading period so the focus is to cultivate the students’ reading skills. Activities are designed to help students to train their reading skills, such as reading for gist, reading for specific information and reading for detail.
It is also important for the Ss to master the new words and phrases.
Anticipated difficulties
As some Ss have a limited vocabulary, so they may have some difficulties in understanding the passage. So the teacher will help them learn the new words and phrases and elicit them to write an advertisement.
Teaching method
1. Fast reading to find out the price of some clothes.
2. Careful reading to find out some details.
3. Question-and –answer activities to help the students to go through the whole advertisement.
4. Elicit students to complete a new advertisement.

Teaching procedures
Step1. Greeting and lead-in
Stage aim: To review the words of clothes we have learnt.
Procedure: Greet students and ask students if they like going shopping. And ask them to look at the slides and elicit students to say the words of clothes according to the pictures.
Time: 3 minutes
Step2. Presentation of the structures we have learnt
Stage aim: To review the structures about how to ask and answer the price of clothes.
Procedure: Show dialogues‘ How much is this......,It is .......’ and ‘ How much are these...... and they are......’ on slides to ask students to ask and answer the price of clothes according to the pictures, including T-shirt, sweater, skirt, hat, bag, jacket, trousers, shorts, shoes and socks.
Time: 1 minute
Step3. Reading for filling price tags.
Stage aim: To give students an opportunity to practise reading for specific information.
Procedure: present an advertisement picture of shoes to lead to the topic of today. Ask students to read the advertisement carefully and fill the price tags. After they finish, ask some students to speak out their answers one by one and give feedback. Emphasize the important phrases and ask students to read the advertisement together.
Time: 10 minutes
Step4. Reading for filling blanks.
Stage aim: To give students an opportunity to practise reading for specific information again.
Procedure: Ask students to fill the blanks which are presented on slide by themselves. And ask some students to speak out their answers one by one and check the answers.
Time: 5 minutes
Step5. Reading for detail.
Stage aim: To give students an opportunity to practise reading for detail.
Procedure: Ask students to think about the questions which are presented on slide by themselves. And ask some students to speak out their answers one by one and check the answers.
Time: 3 minutes

Procedure: Ask students to complete the conversation on their book according to the advertisement on their own. Then ask one student to speak out his or her answers and check the answers.

Stage aim: To give students an opportunity to practise speaking.
Procedure: Ask students to practise the conversation with their partner. Then ask several groups to show their conversation in class.
Time: 8 minutes

Stage aim: To give students an opportunity to practise writing.
Procedure: Ask students to look at the picture on their book and complete the advertisement on the slide by themselves. Then ask one student to speak out the answers and check.
