Dear students,
Recently, environmental protection has become a crucial issue, which draws much attention of the public. Next Friday our school will hold an activity about environmental protection.
One effective method recommended is to transform the way of travelling around. Make public vehicles your prior choice of transportation. It not only exerts positive effects on the environment, but also gives you much convenience. Furthermore, saving electricity as well as water is another small action which makes a great difference. It reduces the waste of resources, contributing to the sustainability of the society. Last but not least, try to use environment-friendly shopping bags when purchasing in the market in order to avoid plastic pollution.
Living a low-carbon life can be beneficial to the society, so join in this activity and take action from now on to make the world a better place.哈尔滨市第七十三中学校2022-2023学年高三上学期第一次月考

I started playing football when I was 7 or 8 years old after my brothers had agreed to let their little sister join in their games. I’m from a very small town and at that time no other girls played football in my town. People said football wasn’t for women and my family shouldn’t let me play. They also said I wouldn’t make it, and that I wasn’t good enough.
As a child, I didn’t really understand why people were so against me playing when I could play it well! I fought back by showing my talent (天赋) on the streets.
My greatest inspiration was my mother. We came from a poor family; my mom separated from my dad when I was less than a year old and she raised four children on her own. She worked all day, had little time to spend with us, but she never gave up. I found my strength from her to keep going.

Every win is important for me, from the time when I was playing in amateur (业余的) teams among the boys to the first win as part of the Brazilian national team, and now. I remember when I went back to my town in 2006 after winning the award for the best female player in the world. When I arrived, it was nearly midnight and the whole town was awake, waiting for me. I got into a fireman’s truck and people were waving. That achievement could happen because I hadn’t given up that first moment I heard a “no”.
Sport changed my life completely. It gave me the opportunity ( 机会 ) to help my family, meet other people, see other countries and experience other cultures. Sport is a tool for empowering girls, because it gives you the opportunity to do what you want and learn to respect the differences between people.
For me, it’s a great honor to be a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador ( 亲善大使 ). Today, I am here to use my story to inspire many more girls and women and to create opportunities so that next generation doesn’t have to go through what I did.

Fear may be felt in the heart as well as in the head, according to a study that has found a link between the cycles of a beating heart and the chance of someone feeling fear.
Tests on healthy volunteers found that they were more likely to feel a sense of fear at the moment when their hearts are contracting (收缩) and pumping blood around their bodies, compared with the point when the heartbeat is relaxed Scientists say the results suggest that the heart is able to influence how the brain reacts to a fearful event, depending on which point it is at in its regular cycle of contraction and relaxation.
Sarah Garfinkel at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School said “Our study shows
第-3-页共10页
for the first time that the way in which we deal with fear is different depending on when we see fearful pictures in relation to our heart.”
The study tested 20 healthy volunteers on their reactions to fear as they were shown pictures of fearful faces. Dr Garfinkel said, “The study showed that fearful faces are better noticed when the heart is pumping than when it is relaxed. Therefore our hearts can also influence what web see and what we don't see---and guide whether we see fear."
To further understand this relationship, the scientists also used a brain scanner (扫描仪 )to show how the brain influences the way the heart changes a person's feeling of fear.
“We have found an important mechanism by which the heart and brain 'speak' to each other to change our feelings and reduce fear,” Dr Garfinkel said.
“We hope that by knowing more about how fear is dealt with and ways that it could be reduced, we may be able to develop more successful treatments for anxiety (焦虑) disorders, and also for those who may be suffering from serious stress disorder."
This study may contribute to__________. A. treating anxiety and stress better
B. explaining the cycle of fear and anxiety
C. finding the key to the heartbrain communication
D. understanding different fears in our hearts and heads
What is the finding of the study
One's heart influences how he feels fear.
Fear is a result of one's heartbeat.
Fear can't be felt because of one's relaxed heartbeat.
One's fast heartbeats are likely to cause fear
10. The study was carried out by studying_______.
volunteers’ heartbeats when they saw terrible pictures
the time volunteers saw fearful picture and their health conditions
volunteers’ reactions to horrible pictures and results from their brain scans
different pictures shown to volunteers and their heartbrain communication
11.Which of the following is closest in meaning to "mechanism" in Paragraph 6
A. Order. B. Treatment. C. Machine. D.System
D
Machines might one day replace human laborers in a number of professions, but surely they won’t ever replace human artists. Right
Think again. Not even our artists will be safe from the inevitable machine takeover, if a new development in Artificial Inteligence ( AI ) by a team of researchers from Rutgers University and Facebook’ s AI lab offers a clue of what's to come. They have designed an

AI capable of not only producing art, but actually inventing whole new aesthetic(美学的) styles similar to movements like impressionism or abstract expressionism. The idea, according to researcher Marian Mazzone, was to make art that is “novel, but not too novel”.
The model used in this project involves a generator network , which produces the images, and a discriminator network, which “ judges ” whether it's art. Once the generator learns how to produce work that the distributor recognizes as art, it’ s given an additional instruction: to produce art that doesn’ t match any known aesthetic styles.
“You want to have something realy creative and striking 一 but at the same time not to go too far and make something that isn't aesthetically pleasing,” explained Ahmed Elgammal.
The art that was generated by the system was then presented to human judges alongside human - produced art without showing which was which. To the researchers' surprise, the machine - made art scored slightly higher overall than the human - produced art.
Of course, machines can't yet replace the meaning conveyed in works by human artists, but this project shows that artist skil sets certainly seem reproducible by machines.
What will it take for machines to produce content with meaning That might be the last AI frontier.
Human artists can at least hang their hats in that field for now.
“Imagine having people over for a dinner party and they ask,'Who is that boy 'And you say,‘ Well, it ’ s a machine actually.’ That would be an interesting conversation starter,” said Kevin Walker.
What is implied in the second paragraph A. Artists won't be replaced by AI.
B. AI can produce new styles of art.
C. AI is totaly at a loss about impressionism. D. AI fails to reflect abstract Expressionism.
What did Marian find in her study
A. AI can please human judges with its art.
B. AI can combine content with meaning.
C. AI can make art aesthetically unpleasant.
D. AI can create high quality arts.
14. What does the underlined phrase “hang their hats” mean
A. Discover. B. Hold. C. Struggle. D. Appear.
What can we know from the last paragraph A. Kevin uses machines to cook for a party.
B. Kevin likes to join in a dinner party.

C. Kevin expects the arrival of AI.
D. Kevin cares about the starter of a chat.
