I have dreamt of taking a trip to Hawaii since I graduated,
but the best thing always needs waiting. I took a trip with
my friends to Haleakala National Park, which lies in Hawaii.
When we arrived at Haleakala National Park, we were
advised to watch the early morning sunrise. I was lost in
the sightseeing that afternoon, so I could hardly wait to
see the sunrise. In the next morning, we all got out of bed
very early and got to the seaside at 3 o’clock. In the first
half an hour, we imagined how wonderful it would be when the
first light came out through the thick clouds and how soft
it would be when the light touched our skin, so we waited
and waited. However, another half an hour later, I gradually
lost my patience since there was nothing but the chilly
darkness, and I felt that I was frozen to death. But my
friends were still extremely cheerful.
Nearly another one hour later, “Amazing!” Judy burst
out and we all shouted to welcome the light, which was really
unbelievable. Until today, I dare say that it is the most
impressive sunrise in my life. However, waiting in the
morning darkness is also one memory I cannot wipe from my
mind forever.
Waiting sometimes is really a hard thing for most of us
as it needs patience and strong-willed determination, but
what about the result after that It might turn out to be
pleasing, unbelievable and satisfying. So, it is really
worthwhile to wait for the best.

If you ’re reading this , you were probably born in the
2000s. The oh - ohs (00 后).
The 21th century . That would make you young , creative ,
connected , global , and no doubt smart . Maybe good -
looking , too . Right But what do other people think about
your generation
Some adults worry that you ’re more interested in the
screen in front of you than the world around you . They think
of you as the “ face - down generation ” because you use
your phone so much and they wonder how you will deal with
school , friends , and family . Are today 's teenagers too

Other adults worry that today 's youth are spoilt(宠

by " helicopter parents ” who were always there to guide

s youth seem to prefer to live like teenagers even when they

probably not . The fact is that many of today ’s teenagers
are better educated and more creative than past
generations . They also seem to be enthusiastic (热情的)
and willing to become leaders . More young people than ever
volunteer to help their communities . There are also brave
young people such as Malala Yousafzai , the teenager who won
the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for pushing girls ' rights to
go to school .
So if you 're one of the oh - ohs , there 's reason to
be hopeful about the future . Things are looking up for the
face - down generation . Chances are that you will do
GR8( great ) and LOL ( laugh out loud ).

Is it possible for the human heart to shrink (缩小)
and if so ,how does this change impact the human body
Recently , scientists have discovered an unexpected
similarity between long - distance swimming and spending a
long duration of time in space - both can cause the human
heart to shrink over time ! These findings were based on the
experiences of astronaut Scott Kelly , who spent 340 days
in space in 2015, and Beno t Lecomte , an athlete who in 2018
第 6 页 共 14 页
swam 1,753 miles ( about 2,821 km ) across the Pacific Ocean
in 159 days .
The absence of gravity in space means that the heart does
not have to work as hard to pump blood through the aorta (主
动脉), the largest blood vessel that supplies oxygen to all
parts of our body . As a result , the heart loses muscle mass
causing it to reduce in size . The study was conducted by
Benjamin Levine , a professor of internal medicine at the
University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center . He noted
that the shrinkage was seen despite the fact that Scott Kelly
exercised every day .
Activities such as long - distance swimming can cause the
heart to change similarly . Lecomte spent 5.8 hours swimming
every day and then another 8 hours sleeping ; therefore ,
he spent more time in a horizontal (水平的) position than
upright . This reduced the force of gravity acting on his
body .
Fortunately , while the heart did shrink in size for Kelly
and Lecomte , it was just as strong and continued to function
normally for both men . And in both cases , the heart regained
its original mass and size after a return to normal daily
lives .
This study is crucial as NASA prepares to send astronauts
to Mars in the 2030s. Professor Levine is working with NASA
on a program called Cipher , which hopes to collect more
information by following ten more astronauts ’ year - long
trips as well as conducting research on shorter trips to
space .
12.What do Kelly and Lecomte have in common
第 7 页 共 14 页
A . Their hearts once became smaller than before .
B . Their hearts are stronger than common people .
C . Their hearts may never return to normal .
D . Their hearts may have to work harder .
13.What causes the change of the heart in space
A . The lack of exercise ,
B . The lack of gravity .
C . The sleeping position .
D . The psychological pressure .
14. What can we know from the last paragraph
A . The limitation of the study .
B . The process of the study .
C . The details of the study .
D . The application of the study .
15.Which can be the best title for the text
A . Can astronauts avoid the effect of gravity
B . Can athletes have a stronger heart
C . Can the human heart reduce in size
D . Can the human heart function well in space
