Unit 7Weather
(The first period)
Teaching aims:
1.Participate in simple interactions in classroom situations
2.Communicate with others on familiar topics
3.Use simple expressions and sentences to describe pictures
4.Understand a series of instructions and act accordingly
Main point:
What’s the weather like It’s cold.
Put on/Take off your sweater. Don’t forget your umbrella.

b) Presentation.
I. Bring in a fan, a scarf or warm hat, an umbrella and a raincoat.
2.. Point outside the window. Say It’s hot/cold/wet/dry today. Mime being hot, cold, wet, or dry. Point to the scarf, hat, fan or umbrella, saying It’s hot/cold/wet. I want a …
3.. Write the words hot/cold/wet/dry on the board. Point to one of the words and say It’s hot. Ask a pupil to come out and give the teacher the fan, scarf, hat, umbrella or raincoat.
4.. Pick up one of objects and ask the pupils to make a sentence, e.g. pick up the umbrella and encourage the pupils to say It’s wet.
5.. Play the tape and point to the speech bubble. Ask the pupils to repeat after the beeps.
c)Practice
1. Introduce Jenny and tell the pupils she is from England. She is showing Pat photos of her home.
2. Revise words of clothes from the previous unit and from Book 4 Unit 9 (dress, shirt, T-shirt, coat, hat, skirt, scarf). Ask the pupils to make sentences about what the people are wearing.
3. Point to the objects, e.g. the hat and ask the pupils What’s this Get them to answer It’s a hat. Say Yes, it’s cold. She’s wearing a hat. Point to other objects and ask them to make similar sentences.
4. Read Jenny’s speech bubble and tell the pupils to work in pairs to work out the sentences to describe the other photos.

Most of pupils can recite new words in class.
Some of pupils can make sentences according the objects, but some of them can’t.

b) Presentation
1.Bring in a sweater, a raincoat and an umbrella or pictures of them. If the weather is hot, put on the sweater.
2. Look out of the door and ask the pupils What’s the weather like
3. According to the weather, put on or take off the sweater and say I’m hot/cold.
4. Write the words hot/cold/wet/dry on the board. Ask a pupil to come the front. Say It’s cold. Point to the sweater and ask the pupils What’s this When the reply tell the pupils at the front, Put on your sweater. Demonstrate what the teacher wants the pupil to do. Write the sentences on the board. Repeat with It’s hot. Take off your sweater.
5. Point to the raincoat and umbrella and ask the pupils What’s this Say It’s wet. Don’t forget your umbrella./Put on your raincoat. Encourage the pupil to pick up the umbrella or put on the raincoat. Write the sentences on the board.
6. Ask a different pupil to come to the front. Give him/her the raincoat and tell him/her to put it on. Look out of the door and say It’s dry. Take off your raincoat. Gesture to them to take off the raincoat. Write the sentences on the board.
c)Practice
1. Play the tape. The pupils listen and follow in their books. Continue to play the cassette and ask the pupils to repeat the words after the beeps.
2. Point to the windows in picture 1-3 and door in picture 4. Ask what’s the weather like
3. Help the pupils to complete the parents’ sentences.
4. In pairs the pupils role-play the conversation between the children and their parent.
5.Ask the pupils to work in pairs and take turns pointing to the small pictures in 5. They ask and answer questions about the weather and the things to put on, take off or not forget.
d)Homework
1.Role the dialogue with your friends.
2.Remember the new words by heart.

1. Point to the characters in the pictures and read their speech bubbles aloud. Ask the pupils to point to the speech bubbles as the teacher reads them.
2. Play the tape for the pupils and ask them to say the sentences after the cassette.
3. Ask the pupils to come up and play the roles of the sun, the wind and the people.
4. Ask the pupils to role-play the story in groups of four and to read the characters’ speech bubbles. Or some groups come out to the front and act the story.
c) Practice
Use Story cards to revise the sequence and language of the story.
Classroom theatre.
d) Homework
Act out the story at home. Listen to the tape twice.

Most of pupils are actors in classroom theatre.

Tick the correct picture
Ask the pupils to read the story again. Read the questions with pupils. Demonstrate how to tick the correct picture for the first question as an example. Use Transparency to check the answers.
C) Say the sound and the words
1. Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette and ask the pupils the listen to the sound and the words. Point out the spelling of this sound. This is a long vowel sound.
2. Say the words slowly and clearly. Check that the pupils are saying the sounds correctly.
3. Point to the pictures and check that the pupils can say the words without the model.
4.Play the tape again. Ask the pupils to listen to the words and to circle the correct boat. Get the pupils to say the words.

b) Presentation
1. Tell the pupils to work in pairs. Ask them to choose who is A and who is B. Tell pupils A to turn to page 64. Pupil B should turn to page 65.
2. On page 64, pupil A should draw the weather in the two windows and complete the sentences under each picture by writing in the blanks and circling the correct words.
3. Then pupil B turns to page 65 and ask pupil A What’s the weather like Pupil A answers according to their completed sentences, e.g. It’s wet. Put on your raincoat.
4. Pupil B records his/her friend’s answers by drawing the correct weather and completing the sentences for Day 1 and Day 2. Finally pupil B should check his/her answers with pupil A.
c)Listen, number and sing
Play the PB Cassette for the pupils to listen to the song. Point to each of the small picture and ask the pupils what’s the weather like
Play the cassette again and tell the pupils to number the pictures for each of the verses.
Play the cassette again and encourage the pupils to join in with the words.

本单元讲述的是天气状况,与实际生活联系紧密,学生十分感兴趣。
通过天气的变化,联系衣着的不同的叙述,既复习了上一节的知识,又学到了新的知识,效果很好。
一些学生较难掌握put on, take off ,Don’t forget等词汇的用法,还需多加以练习。
