Unit 8 Playtime
Task objectives:
Communicate with others on familiar topics.
Ask and describe what people are doing.
Use English to play games.
Ask and tell the time.
Ask and talk about present actions..

Write the names of some games in the boxes. Listen and circle the word. Shout ‘Bingo’ when you have three in a row.
Period I

Step II Revision
1. TPR: The teacher gives some orders, the pupils do the actions.
2. Do the actions and let the pupils guess what you are doing.
Step III. Presentation
1.Bring in pictures of pupils playing the games.
2.Introduce the games using the real objects. Write the names of the games on the board.
Ask the pupils Can you play….
Mime each of the games for the pupils (two hands moving upwards for volleyball ect.)Say and write the names of each sport after you mime it. Hold up a word card and ask the pupils to mime.
Step IV Practice
Open the books. Read the child’s bubble. Get the pupils to point to the correct photo.
Point to the other photos and ask the pupils to make similar sentences about the games the children are playing in each of them.
Tell the pupils what we always need to say play plus the names of these games.
4. Ask the pupils to tell you about the games they play.
Step V Consolidation and homework
1. Play a guessing game. Divide the class into two teams. The teams take it in turns to nominate two pupils to come to the front. Show the pupils a slip of paper with the name of a game on it and get them to read it silently. Tell them to draw a picture of the game on the board. The members of their own team guess what the sport is. They get a point for each correct guess. If the first team cannot guess the other team can try. Keep score on the board.
Read the text again.
Homework: Copy the new works, each two lines.

Step I. Warm up
Sing a song: Ten little boys
Step II. Revision
Play a guessing game. Take out a card occasionally and ask the pupils to guess. Keep score on the board.
Step III. Presentation
Bring in clock used for teaching the time. Make sure the pupils can clearly see the twelve numbers on the clock’s face.
Display the clock or draw a clock on the board. Teach the word clock.
Point to the numbers in sequence and ask the pupils to count with you to twelve. Then point to numbers individually and out of sequence, asking the pupils What number is this
Move the hands to one o’clock. Say It’s one o’clock. Write the time on the board in words and numbers. Change the hour hand to two and repeat the process with the other numbers.
Ask several pupils to act the teacher. Ask them to come, move the hands of the clock and ask the others What time is it
Step IV. Practice
Open the books and play the tape. The pupils listen and follow in their books. Continue to play the tape and ask the pupils to repeat the words after the beeps.
Show the pupils the times in numbers written down the side of the timetable. Ask What time is it The pupils reply it’s o’clock. Tell the pupils to point to the correct small picture at the bottom of the page.
Point to the games the pupils of three to complete the conversation between Koko, the teacher and the boy about what the children are doing at each of the times.
Step V. Consolidation
Ask some pairs of pupils to stand up and ask and answer questions according to the time in B.
The class read B altogether and ask some brave pupils to act as a little teacher.
Step VI. Homework
Copy Part B.
Recite Part B.
Ask and answer questions about time with one’s acquaintance.

Step I. Revision
Oral English: What day is it today
What time is it today
Ask the pupils to read and spell the words by using the word cards.
Ask one pupils to come to the front, he/she makes a gesture of playing a kind of ball, ask the class to answer the question: What’s Pat/Tim doing
Step II Presentation
1.Point to the characters in the pictures and read their speech aloud. Ask the pupils to point to the speech bubbles as you read them.
2.Play the tape for the pupils and ask them to say the sentences after the tape.
Ask the pupils to role-play the story in group of five and to read the characters’ speech bubbles. Some groups may like to act the story.
Step III. Practice
Ask the pupils to read the story again, then tick the correct answers
Step Ⅳ.Consolidation
Ask five pupils to read the story in their own roles.
Use the story cards to review the story again.
Draw out any card from the story to ask the pupils to read out the content of this card.

Learn to say the sounds and the words with the s sound in them.
Learn to do and write about the model.

Pictures, real objects, story-cards, a tape-recorder
Teaching steps:
Step I. Warm up
Sing the song “Seek and hide ”
Step II. Revision
Ask the pupils to read the story altogether, some good ones can try to recite this story.
Ask two or three pairs to act out the story.
Step III. Presentation
Play the tape and ask the pupils to listen to the sound and the words.
Point out the spelling of this sound. It is important that the pupils realize the vowel sound is spelt with two letters.
Say the words slowly and clearly. Check the pupils are saying the sounds correctly.
Point to the pictures and check that the pupils can say the words without model.
Play the tape. Ask the pupils to listen to the rhyme and tick the correct picture showing where the children want to play. Get the pupils to say the rhyme.
Step IV. Consolidation
Ask the pupils to read the rhyme altogether.
Read the rhyme in groups to see which group is better.

Step I. Warm up and revision
1. Ask six to seven pupils to come to the blackboard and have dictation of the new words of this unit.
2.Ask some pairs to act out the story in groups.
Step II. Presentation
Play the tape for the pupils to follow and repeat.
Divide the class into two groups to sing the song.
Ask the pupils to open their books at page 45 and do F altogether.
First ask them to write the names of some games in the boxes, then take turns to ask the teacher the time and what’s …..doing and then circle the word. At last, ask them to fill in the table on the bottom.
Step III. Practice
Play a miming game. Write different times on the board. Make two teams. Get the other team to say it. Get the first team to ask What’s Mary doing Show the other team a word card with the names of a game on it. The team answers the question and does the mime for that game. Alternate the questioning and answering roles for the teams.
Step IV. Consolidation
Ask some pupils to read out their tables they have just finished.
Sing the song again, changing the words according to the pictures.
Step V. Homework
Sing the song after class.
Recite this unit to the group leader.
