1. There was hardly any space for the children to sit down. 几乎没有什么地方让孩子们坐下来。
“There is hardly any … for sb.to do sth.” 意为“某人几乎没有……去做某事”,其中hardly相当于almost no / almost not /
用法
almost none,为否定词,不应与 not 或其他否定词连用。如:
There is hardly / almost not any food for us to eat. 我们几乎没有能吃的食物了。
拓展
除了hardly外,never, seldom, rarely等都是表示否定的词,这些词常置于情态动词和助动词之后,实义动词之前 。如:
You can never turn the clock back. 你永远也无法让时光倒流。
He seldom / rarely goes out at night.他晚上很少出门。
