Cellphones are still absent from most U. S. schools but new data shows they are steadily gaining approval. More school administrators are bowing to parents’ wishes to stay in touch with their kids. Teachers also find ways to work them into lessons. The nation’s largest school system, New York City, is among those that have abandoned strict bans.
Liz Kolb, an education technology professor at the University of Michigan, said, “We’ve seen a lot of schools say, ‘Well, I’m not going to fight parents that are upset that their child can’t have the cellphone in school. ’”
“Teachers are also taking advantage of the technology, ” Kolb added. Many districts are spending millions of dollars in giving students access to tablets or laptop computers. These have countless academic apps and programs teachers can use. According to Kolb, there are teachers who have found that having the cellphone is like having a computer in your pocket, so it’s a way to have another learning tool that isn’t necessarily costing the district more money.
Still, some school districts are moving in the opposite direction. The school
board in Mansfield City, Ohio, last year tightened its rules. It now requires the
devices (设备) be turned off and out of sight in classrooms unless the teacher says
otherwise.
In Connecticut, Seymour High School Principal Jim Freund said teachers tried
to limit cellphone use to lunch and other noninstructional (非教学的) times.
However, students were still playing games or on social media when they shouldn’t
have been. “I don’t think they had the maturity level to control it, ” Freund said. So
the school promulgated a strict ban in December. Since then, students have reported
getting more work done in study hall and the cafeteria has become noisy as students
talk to one another more.

Good morning, everyone! It’s my great honour to be here to share with you my opinion on houses in the future.
I often imagine what houses in the future will be like. With the development of science and technology, houses in the future will be greatly different from what they are today.
Houses in the future will change their form and temperature as the season changes. What’s more, they will be able to save your money on heating, and prevent energy waste. They will produce energy through their solar panels, which can be used to provide hot water, heat spaces in winter and air-condition the house in summer. Besides, they change their colour at any time to satisfy their owners.
In short, living in a future house will be amazing.
Thank you!
