Section A: 1a-2d
Analysis:
This period is the first period of Unit 7 in the book of Grade 7. The main topic of this unit is shopping which is related to students’ daily life, so it is easy to raise their interest. In this period, students will learn words of clothes and adjectives like big, small, long, short and colors. Also, they will learn the sentence patterns to ask about price.
Teaching aims:
Help students to master the new words and talk about the clothes.
Enable students to know the sentence patterns to ask about the price: How much is / are …… .
Teaching important and difficult point points:
Help students to use the sentence patterns (How much is / are … ) to communicate fluently.
Teaching methods:
Oral practice; Listening practice; Pairwork
Teaching aids:
Blackboard; Chalk; Multimedia; Some clothes
Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Warm up
1. Talk about the teacher’s T-shirt, then tell students differences between Dollar and RMB.
2. Show students a video and help them find the sentence pattern to ask about price: How much ……
Step 2 Presentation (words and pairwork)
1. Show students the pictures of clothes, and tell them the new words one by one.
2. Then have students focus on the four words: socks, shoes, shorts and trousers, and tell students the usage of these four words.
3. Show students the prices of the clothes and have students ask the prices like this:
How much is this T-shirt – It’s seven dollars.
How much are these socks – They’re two dollars.
4. Ask some pairs to present their conversations.
Step 3 Presentation (adjectives and game)
1. Show two T-shirts and two pairs of socks to students and let students describe the differences using the words: long and short; big and small.
2. Read the words of colors and have students to repeat. Then ask students to watch a video and tell the colors in it.
3. Describe some pairs of pictures using the adjectives: big, small, long, short and the words of colors.
4. Ask some students to the front of the classroom, and have the other students to describe the clothes they wear today.
Step 4 Listening and writing
1. 2b.Listen to the conversations and circle the things you hear.
2. Check the answers by writing the phrases on the blackboard like this:
The big purple hat
The brown sweater
The red shorts
The green T-shirt
The long blue and yellow socks
The black trousers
3. 2c. Listen again and fill in the price tags.
4. Check the answers and have students write sentences like this:
The big purple hat is 5 dollars.
The brown sweater is 8 dollars.
The red shorts are 6 dollars.
The green T-shirt is 7 dollars.
The long blue and yellow socks are 2 dollars.
The black trousers are 9 dollars.
Step 5 Role-play (if time permits)
1. Divide the class into two parts: buyers and sellers.
2. Have them role-play a conversation of buying clothes.
Step 6 Summary
1. Summarize the key words and sentence patterns.
