Unit1 The world of our senses
Welcome to the unit
Hello, everyone. Today I’m very pleased to have an opportunity
to talk about my teaching design. My topic is the world of our sen-ses taken from the Oxford English for Senior School module 3. I will choose one of the period “welcome to the unit”to have a lec-ture.
My lecture includes the flowing contents:
Part 1 The analysis of the teaching material
Part 2 The analysis of the learners
Part 3 Teaching method
Part 4 Teaching procedures
Part 5 Teaching reflection
Part 1.The analysis of the teaching material
I This unit mainly talk about the senses of human beings, and it s-hows us that the senses are really important to us. As the beginnin-g of this unit, this period of “welcome to the unit” plays a very important part in the English teaching of this unit. Through setting various activities, it will arouse the students’ interests and let them get a general understanding of this unit, which will be good for th-e following studying.
II According to the students’ English level and new standard of En-glish, the teaching objectives are as follows:
1. Knowledge and skills objectives:
(1)Encourage the students to practice their oral English.
(2)Let them know the importance of senses and know that sometimes senses affect one another and people may be misled by their own senses.
2. Process and method objectives:
The approaches of discussion and so on will be adopted in the teaching process of this lesson. Students are expected to be involve-d in the discussion, practice their spoken English, and share their opinions with one another. Introduce a rich variety of activities and approaches to meet different need of students. 3. Emotional and value objectives:
Senses play an important part in our daily lives. This section w-ill help the students realize how they and other people use their se-nses in their studies and daily life. It will also teach them how to make better use of their senses.
III Key points: Talk about the functions of peoples’ senses and th-e relations between them. Help the students prepare for their discus-sion, making sure that they are carefully prepared before the lesso-n.
IV Difficult points: how to describe people who have made great achievements even if they have lost one of their senses.
Part 2 The analysis of the learners
Since the learners are students of Grade one, it is very importa-nt to help them to form a good habit of learning in class. The lear-ners are sensitive to new knowledge, eager to participate in activit-y and they are rich in imagination.
Part 3 Teaching method
1.Student-centered theory (学生中心论)
It is a teaching model that places the student in the center of the teaching process.
2.The constructivist learning theory (建构主义学习理论)
This theory states that learning is an active process of creating meaning from different experiences. That is let the learner to experience and construct their own knowledge.
3.The theory of communicative competence(语言交际能力理论)
It includes both the knowledge of the language and the knowled-ge of how to use the language in communicative situation.
4.The task-based approach(任务型教学方法)
The whole teaching process will be carried out by various learni-ng tasks. During this process, the students will become the real m-asters of their learning, while the teacher acts as a director. In this way the learners will experience the knowledge and eventually acq-uire it.
Part 4 Teaching procedures
There are six parts in my procedure.
(1) Lead-in
(2) Sharing information
(3) Discussion
(4) Language study
(5) Summary
(6) Homework
Step (1) Lead-in
In this section I organized two activities.
Activity 1, listen to a song, and then I will give them some qu-estions to elicit the five senses, “With what do we see and hear” “how do we know whether a dish is delicious”and so on.
(This activity will arouse the students’interests and focus the-ir attention on our topic “senses”.)
Activity 2, I will arrange some students to close their eyes to t-ouch ting and try to guess what it is. Also, I will design a game t-o let the player to express some words without speaking or hearin-g. Then I will ask them the questions as follows:
Do you know how blind people read?
How do the deaf communicate with each other?
What are you feelings about this people?
(This section will stimulate the students’ enthusiasm, further more it enables the students to learn by their own experience a-nd improve their oral English.)
Step (2) Sharing information
Ask the students to read the passage and look at the four picture-es on page 1 and answer the question below each picture. After t-he students have studied the four pictures, I will ask them to thin-k about them and find the answers to the following question:
1. What can we learn form observing the four pictures?
2. Why are people misled by their own eyes?
Step (3) Discussion
Put the students into groups of four to discuss the question. As-k some students to report their answers to the whole class.
Do you know of any people who have made great achievement even if they have lost one of their senses? What did they achieve?
(In this section the students are expected to be involved in t-he discussion, practice their spoken English, and share their op-inions with one another.)
Step (4) Language study
students will learn some useful phrases such as “in one’s daily life(在某人的日常生活中), affect one another(相互影响), hold your nose(捏住鼻子), sign language(手语)”.
Step (5) Summary
At the end of the class I will spend a few minutes to summari-ze what have learned in this class. This stage will reinforce the lea-rning by helping students to refer back to the contents. It is also a time to create a sense of achievement for the class.
Step (6) Homework
There are two tasks of the homework:
1. Ask the students to surf the Internet to find more informatio-n about the people who have made great achievements even if theyhave lost one of their senses and try to write something about the-m.
2. Ask the students to preview the text“Fog”.
Part 5 Teaching reflection
Teaching is a complicated process, which make it impossible for teacher to follow his scheduled plan in real class settings. Teachin-g reflection is a good way to teachers’development and success.
My teaching reflection includes:
1.?Language is the result of "Acquisition", so the teachers shoul-d provide students with the opportunity to learn independently and fully develop themselves.
2. The designed activities must be related to the students’ life experiences and interests, the contents and methods must meet the needs of students, or it will not arouse the interest of students, whi-ch can not complete the objectives.
