1. 教学目标
1) New words: haunted, ghost, trick, treat, spider, Halloween.
2) Get the useful information by listening and speaking, enjoy the culture of foreign festivals.
3) Practice the listening skills.
2. 学情分析
The students of Junior Three have learned a lot of festivals in Section A, they are interested in foreign festivals, such as Christmas, Easter and Halloween. This period will provide a comprehensive knowledge of Halloween and the students must love it.
3. 重点难点
1.The key words and phrases: trick ,treat ,spider ,dress up
2.Enjoy the fun of foreign festivals by listening and speaking in pairs.
3.Let the students draw a mind map of Halloween and talk about it in groups.
4. 教学过程
Step 1 Warming-up and review
Let the students think about the festivals they have learned including Chinese festivals and foreign ones, such as Spring Festival, Lantern Festival, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas and so on. Ask them to speak as much as possible.
Step 2 Leading-in
Play a small video of Halloween and show some words on the blackboard: ghost, vampire, skeleton and so on to let then get a general understanding of Halloween.
Then show some pictures about Halloween to ask and answer the following questions:
Do you know about Halloween
What will the kids do on that day
What does the game “trick or treat” mean
Step 3 1a
First, let the students read the words and phrases after the teacher. Then ask what are related to the festival and what do you think this festival is about. Give them several minutes to think about it and ask some to act.
Step 2 1b and 1c
Listen to the tape on P13 and finish the listening task in 1b.Then students listen again and finish the listening tasks in 1c.Listen again and stop at the key words and phrases to check the answer.
Step 3 Pair work and group work
Think about the Halloween activities that interest you most. Discuss what you have learned with a partner.
e.g.
--What have you learned about Halloween
--Oh, I know it’s a popular festival in North America and it’s on October 31st.
--What do you like most about this festival
--I think it’s fun to dress up as cartoon characters!
Then let them discuss in groups and create a mind-map to summarize the information of Halloween.
Step 4 Practice
Work in pairs to discuss the festivals using the target language:

When is it
What activies do people do
