I.语言点精讲
1. It must belong to Carla. 它一定是卡拉的。
belong to 意为“属于,是……的”,没有被动语态,也不能用于进行时态。其中to是介词。
The guitar might belong to Alice. 这把吉他也许是艾丽斯的。
这句话还可以用以下方式表达: The guitar might be Alice’s.
belong to表示某物“属于”某人,后常跟名词或代词宾格,不能跟名词性物主代词或名词所有格
be表示某物“是”某人的,后接名词性物主代词或名词所有格
belong to sb. 通常可以和名词性物主代词或名词所有格(一般是’s 所有格)互相转换。
The blue jacket belongs to him / Jerry. →
The blue jacket is his / Jerry’s.
Whose book is this 这是谁的书?
whose特殊疑问词,意为“谁的”,可以作定语、也可作表语,用以提问物品的所属关系。其答语常用名词所有格、名词性物主代词或短语belong to。
—Whose bananas are these 这些是谁的香蕉?
—They are Jim’s bananas. 它们是吉姆的。
—Whose is that bedroom 那是谁的卧室?
—It is mine. 我的。
I attended a concert yesterday … 昨天我参加了一个音乐会……
attend此处用作及物动词,意为“出席;参加”,其宾语常为concert,meeting等。
Children must attend school. 儿童必须上学。
Do you have anything valuable in your schoolbag 你的书包里有贵重的东西吗?
valuable形容词,意为“贵重的;很有用的;宝贵的”,在句中可用作定语,也可用作表语。用作表语时,可与介词to连用,常用短语be valuable to sb.“对某人来说很有价值”。
This painting is very valuable. 这幅绘画非常名贵。
He gave us valuable advice on the problems of education.
他在教育问题上给我们提了宝贵的建议。
This experience is valuable to me. 这一经历对我很有用。
I left early, before the rest of my friends. 我早在我其余的朋友之前离开了。
the rest of …意为“剩下的/其余的……”,其后接名词作主语时,谓语动词的单复数形式取决于of后面的名词的单复数。
The rest of the students are boys. 其余的学生是男生。
The rest of the money is stolen. 剩下的钱被偷了。
I think somebody must have picked it up. 我想一定有人捡到了它。
must have picked it up是“must+have+过去分词”的结构,表示对过去时间里可能发生的事情的肯定推测。
—Linda has gone to work, but her bicycle is still here.
琳达已经去上班了,但她的自行车还在这里。
—She must have gone by bus. 她一定是乘公共汽车去的。
I’ll call them now to check if anybody has it. 现在我要给他们打电话核实一下是否有人拿了它。
anybody代词,意为“任何人”,常用于否定句和疑问句中,相当于anyone。有时在肯定句或if条件状语从句中想表达“任何人”的含义时也用anybody/anyone。
Has anybody come 有人来了吗?
It’s easy—anybody can do it. 这很容易——任何人都会做。
Please tell me at once if anybody calls me. 假如有人给我打电话,请立刻告诉我。

阅读理解
Every weekend when Maggie visited her grandfather, he gave her some butterscotch candies (奶油硬糖).
Last weekend during Maggie’s visit, she found that there were no candies.
“What’s wrong ” asked her grandfather.
“I can’t find any butterscotch candies,” said Maggie.
Her grandfather was surprised. “I put some in the bowl yesterday.” He couldn’t find any butterscotch candies left in the bowl, either. “Maybe I forgot to put them in the bowl. Let me look for them.”
Her grandfather had no idea what could have happened to them until he walked by the living room. A little flash of golden light caught his eye. He went over to investigate, and Maggie came running behind him.
It was a butterscotch candy, lying on the living room floor.
“Now how did that get here ” asked her grandfather.
“Look!” shouted Maggie, finding a candy behind the chair. “Here’s another one!”
Her grandfather joined her on the floor, and he pulled out more candies.
