1) Students can master the key words and phrases: resolution, promise, tidy, physical health, program, self-improvement, hobby, take up.
2) Students can master the meaning of resolutions and the importance of making resolutions.
2. Ability aims:
1) Students are able to master some reading skills, such as fast reading and careful reading.
2) Students are able to use these reading skills to improve their reading.
3. Emotional aims:
Students are able to consider whether they should make a resolution or not. If they believe that resolutions are helpful, they will learn to make proper resolutions to make their lives better.

Step 1 Warm-up
1.Greetings.
T: Good morning, boys and girls.

2. Watching a video and answer the question: What are they talking about
(开门见山，通过一段小视频导入本课的话题resolutions, 视频由班级个别学生录制，能够吸引其他同学的注意力，同时贴近他们自己的生活，容易引起共鸣。)
3. Free talk

(同学们在之前基本上都有过制定计划或决定，针对第一个问题他们有话可说，另外一些同学能够保持他们的决定而一些同学中途因为各种原因放弃了，进行第二个问题的探讨为文章的阅读以及之后的讨论奠定基础。)
Step 2 Presentation
1. Fast reading
1） Read each paragraph and then get the main idea. Ask students to read the whole passage quickly, find the key words and key sentences, then summarize the sentences to get the main idea.
(这一部分旨在让学生对全文框架有个初步的了解，锻炼了学生找中心句以及总结的能力。)
2） Read the passage again, put the sentence A-D in the correct places in the passage. Give students three minutes to find the answer and ask them to tell the reason.
(这一部分难度稍大，平时训练中填空训练较少，除了找出答案之外，让学生找出原因，有利于让学生了解到此类题型的做法。)
2. Careful reading
1）Read the first paragraph, and discuss the questions in groups.
Q1：What is a resolution.
Q2 : When do people usually make resolutions
Q3 : Why do people usually make resolutions
Q4 : How can people remember their resolutions
Divide the whole class into four groups, each group choose one question. The group members need to work together to get the answer. Give students several minutes to prepare then ask them to share their answers.
(采用小组合作的方式，提高了阅读效率，同时每位同学针对问题有不同的见解，扩充了答案。)
2）Read the second paragraph, answer the questions and fill in the blanks.
3) Read the third paragraph, finish the task. Give students several minutes and invite some of them to answer.
Step 3 Consolidation
1. Discussion: Should people make resolutions or not
Four students a group, let them discuss with their group members, then invite students to show their opinions. After that, the teacher gives her own opinion.
(针对书中的观点展开讨论，让学生自由阐述学生自己的观点及理由，教师适当进行引导，帮助学生形成有利于他们学习和成长的情感态度价值观。)
2. Let students make a proper resolution. Encourage students to write down their resolutions on the paper and show in front of the class.
(鼓励学生学会并制定合适计划决定，勇敢的展示出来并坚持下去。)
