Part1 Teaching Material Analysis
1. Status and function
This is a reading lesson. It is mainly about robots. The topic is related to future life. Of course, students will be very interested in this lesson. By learning this lesson, the students’ reading and writing ability will be improved,the attitude of emotion will be changed. If students learn this lesson well, it will be helpful for them to learn the next writing lesson.
2. Teaching objectives
According to the new curriculum standard and students’ real situation, I set the teaching objectives as follows.
Knowledge aims
1. Ss will be able to master the key words and know how to use the four-skilled words, like dangerous, believe, shape, possible and so on.
2. Ss will be able to understand the whole passage completely.
Ability aims
1. Ss will be able to predict some information according to the title and the picture.
2. Ss will be able to scan for the specific information.
3. Ss will be able to draw the mind-map of this article.
Emotion aims
1. Ss will love their present life, and work harder for the future life.
2. Ss will be able to build up their confidence and have interest in language learning.
Key points
1. Cultivate the students’ reading strategies, such as predicting, skimming, scanning and guessing meaning of unknown words.

1. Understand the whole passage completely.

In this lesson, tape-recorder, multi-media, PPT and some pictures will be used.

The students, from Grade 8, are curious and interested in new things. They have learned English for a few years. They have mastered some basic English and had some basic abilities. Some are active in class, but some are afraid of speaking English because they are not confident enough.

Step1 warming-up and lead-in (2 min)
Activity: Play a video about robots.
Aim: To attract students’ attention to the topic and create a relaxing atmosphere.
Step2 pre-reading (6 min)
Activity1: Show some pictures, talk about them and learn some new words.
Aim: Pave the way for the following learning.
Activity2: Let students predict what the article will talk about according to the title and picture.
Aim: Cultivate the students’ autonomous learning ability.
Step3 fast reading (8 min)
Activity1: Skim the article and find the following sentences in the passage.
When we watch movies about the future, we sometimes see robots.
Today there are already robots working in factories.
Scientists are now trying to make robots look like humans and do the same things as we do.
Some scientists believe that there will be more robots in the future.
Aim: Cultivate the students’ skimming ability.
Activity2: Scan the passage to get the main idea of the article.

Activity1: Read the article carefully and finish the following exercises.

Aim: Cultivate the students to love their present life, and work harder for the future life.

Ask some students to summarize as usual. Guide them to sum up as follows.
